3 more die of swine flu in Nagpur in last 48 hours, toll reaches 32

Three more people died of swine flu in the last 48 hours in Nagpur, taking the death toll of the Nagpur region in Maharashtra to 32 since January 15 this year.

According to information available, one patient from a private nursing home died of the disease on Tuesday morning. The victim was identified as Ajit Chhaterjee, an ex-employee of MOIL, Nagpur. He was being treated at a private nursing home for the last two weeks, his family members said.

Woman dies due to swine flu in Bhusawal

2 more succumb to swine flu, death toll rises to 22 in Pune

PUNE: Two more patients, including a 30-year-old resident of Sinhagad Road, have succumbed to swine flu, taking the city's death toll to 22 so far this year. Of the 22 deaths, 17 died while being treated at various hospitals in Pune and five in Pimpri Chinchwad.

Swine flu virus infected 27 more people on Tuesday, the highest recorded on a single day so far this year. Of the 27 patients, 24 are residents of Pune, while three have come down to the city for treatment. With this, the number of swine flu cases in Pune has gone up to 135 since January. Currently, the condition of 12 patients is critical. All of them have been put on ventilator support at different hospitals in the city.

One out of 4 tested for H1N1 virus returns positive

MUMBAI: Laboratories testing samples for the swine flu virus have reported an alarmingly high positivity rate of 24%, indicating that nearly one out of every four persons tested for the virus has returned positive. The spurt in H1N1 incidence continued on Tuesday with 30 people testing positive over the last 24 hours.

Another suspected death as swine flu rages on

NAGPUR: Yet another patient suspected to be suffering from swine flu died on Wednesday even before report of his throat sample was processed. Six female patients admitted in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and KRIMS Hospital tested H1N1 positive on the day. Two of them were kids below the age of ten.

Samples sent by GMCH for testing to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) could not be processed on Wednesday because of the high pendency and a holiday on Sunday. Vithal Manekar, 41, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, was brought to GMCH on Tuesday as a suspected swine flu patient. His samples were sent for testing the next morning but he passed away on Wednesday evening. There have been several incidents this year of suspected patients dying before it could be ascertained whether they had swine flu.

According to a report by Greater Mumbai municipal corporation's public health department, the cause of the death was cited as cardiac respiratory arrest in a case of H1N1 infection. Public health officials, however, said the situation is not alarming. "There is no reason to panic. People should just take precautions against the virus. Most recorded cases in the city are stable," said Dr Mangala Gomare, head of the epidemiology department in BMC.
27 new swine flu cases were recorded in Mumbai hospitals on Wednesday. Of these, 19 patients were from the city. The total count of H1N1 virus patients in Mumbai now stands at 224, with 163 cases from Mumbai. One patient from Mumbai has succumbed to the deadly disease so far.
The highest number of fresh swine flu cases in a day was recorded on Tuesday. Of the 37 new cases, 30 patients were from Mumbai.
According to experts, most cases recorded in the country are of people between 15-20 years of age group.

Swine Flu Claims 83 Lives in Maharashtra
MUMBAI | FEB 19, 2015



Swine flu has claimed 83 lives in Maharashtra so far, while 40 of the 205 patients, currently being treated at various hospitals in the state are on ventilator, an official said.

A statement from the Joint Director of Health services Satish Pawar said that out of the 83 dead, nine persons were residents of other states while one was from Mumbai.

The man, who was a hypertension patient, was admitted on February 11 with breathlessness and symptoms of swine flu. According to the hospital, he was on ventilator and his condition deteriorated very fast. "He died of respiratory failure and had bilateral lobar pneumonia, a complication of H1N1."

Swine flu: 40 on ventilator, but many recover

PUNE: There has been a perceptible rise in the number of swine flu-infected patients turning critical over the last few days with 40 people currently on ventilator support in different hospitals across Maharashtra. Health officials said the virus has damaged their lungs resulting in respiratory distress in most cases. Most of the critical patients have compromised immunity or have delayed taking treatment.

"Currently, 205 swine flu patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the state. Their condition is not worrisome as they are recovering. The condition of 40 swine flu infected patients is currently critical. They have been put on ventilator support at different hospitals across the state," said state surveillance officer Pradip Awate.

H1N1 cases soar to 752 across state

PUNE: As many as 74 fresh cases of swine flu were recorded across the state on Friday, including 33 from Pune city alone. This has taken the total number of H1N1 cases registered in Maharashtra to 752 this year so far with 88 casualties.

As many as 48 patients are currently critical and have been put on ventilator at different hospitals. The number of people who are recovering from swine flu is also on the rise.

Pimpri woman dies of H1N1

PUNE: A 45-year-old woman from Pimpri succumbed to swine flu at a private hospital here on Monday, taking the H1N1 death toll in city to 22 and Pimpri Chinchwad to five this year so far. Geeta Nair had developed influenza-like illness on February 14, but could be admitted to a hospital only on February 20 as most of the hospitals she went to failed to treat her due to non-availability of beds.

Swine flu claims 8th life
Nashik: Swine flu continues to claim lives in the district with one more person from Malegaon succumbed to the disease on Monday while undergoing the treatment in the district civil hospital. The toll has reached now to eight so far with this. Five more patients showing the symptoms of swine flu are admitted in the district hospital on both Sunday and Monday.
Dadaji Sahebrao Sonawane (35, Malegaon) died at 4.30 am on Monday.
