Nagpur: Swine flu death toll of Nagpur circle of the public health services touched 79 with two more patients succumbing to the disease at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH). The disease has claimed the lives of eight people belonging to Amravati district, all at various hospitals in Nagpur.

Swine flu claims 7 lives in a day in Pune

With Maharashtra experiencing a second bout of unseasonal showers in days, the swine flu onslaught bore down heavily upon the State, taking the death toll to 235.

According to medical reports, Pune district is now the worst-hit in the State with as many as seven people succumbing to swine flu or swine flu-induced maladies on Tuesday itself, shooting up the number of dead to 63 with more than 40 fresh cases recorded on a single day.

The number of swine flu cases recorded in Pune district since January has now exceeded 800, with the district recording almost a third of the total number of cases registered across the State.

17 die of swine flu in M'shtra taking toll to 264

In Maharashtra, death toll due to Swine flu is continuously rising, despite State health department?s claims that it is well equipped to handle its prevention and control. The State Government too has announced that H1N1 patients would be treated free-of-cost at all government hospitals. Despite all the care taken by the state Machinery in controlling the spread of swine flu, the toll in Maharashtra has touched 264 since January this year. In last 24 hours a total of 17 patients passed away at various hospitals in state.

Meanwhile, today 130 swine flu positive patients were treated and discharged from various hospitals, thus the total number of patients treated successfully stands at 2419.

Swine flu claims 4 more lives in Mumbai, death toll touches 28

Friday the 13th proved to be a painful day for Mumbaikars with four people dying of swine flu and 67 people testing positive in Mumbai hospitals.
The death toll in the city has now climbed up to 28, with nine residents of the city and 19 patients who had come to the city for treatment.
Since January 19, 1072 Mumbaikars have been tested positive with H1N1 virus.

A 61-year-old woman from Dongari lost her life at Habib Hospital. She had been admitted to Saboo Siddique Hospital on March 6. She succumbed to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) along with multiple internal ailments. The three other patients who were bought to the city hospital for treatment were a 47-year-old woman from Badlapur, a 58-year-old male from Alibaug and a 34-year-old female from Koparkhairane, all of whom succumbed to the virus.

NAGPUR: With the death of a 62-year-old woman, a resident of Morshi, on Friday at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the death toll due to swine flu at GMCH reached 35 since January 1 this year. This has also taken the total number of deaths in Nagpur circle (six districts) to 81.

Maharashtra records worst swine flu outbreak in four years

PUNE: Swine flu has hit the state the hardest this year. The virus has infected over 3,000 people and claimed 264 lives across the state in less than three months of 2015, the highest in the last four years. Even more worrying is the healthy profile of the patients who succumbed to the infection. Around 36 % of the people who died of the contagion were healthy and had no other associated illness. And 85% of the victims were in 21 to 60 years age group.

In less than three months, the city has already crossed the death toll of 2009 and is at one-third of the number of lives lost in the entire year of 2010, when the infection was at its peak.

2 more deaths take H1N1 toll to 30 in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Two more succumbed to complications arising out of an H1N1 viral infection, civic officials said on Saturday. The toll due to H1N1, also known as swine flu, thus touched 30 in the city even as the state-wide toll climbed to 277 since January.

''Two patients died in Kasturba Hospital due to H1N1. While one was a 38-year-old man from Mira Road and a 42-year-old woman from Raigad,'' said BMC epidemiology chief Dr Mangala Gomare. However, she pointed out that only nine of the 30 dead patients belonged to Mumbai. ''Mumbai has been different this year. While many are getting diagnosed, mortality has been lower than in other parts of the country,'' she added.

According to studies done by ICMR and National Institute of Virology, hyperactive immune system is the reason for such deaths. Swine flu infections are otherwise very mild and most people don't even require hospitalisation," said Dr Pradip Awate, state's epidemeology cell in-charge.

On Friday, 43 people were said to have tested positive for swine flu in Mumbai, out of which 25 are admitted in hospitals and supposed to be stable, said BMC health officials. Around 31 are said to be on ventilator and critical.

Swine flu toll 86 with three more deaths

NAGPUR: Death toll among swine flu patients in the Nagpur circle of the state's public health department has reached 86. Two women passed away on Monday, one on Tuesday while the death certificate of a patient who had died earlier was received by the deputy director of health services on Tuesday.

One patient who died on Monday was undergoing treatment at Sewagram while another was being treated at a private hospital in city. On Tuesday, a 30-year-old woman undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGMCH) also passed away. Since January 1, 46 swine flu patients from the city, 14 from neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh and 25 from various parts of the region have passed away. In all, 492 patients have tested H1N1 positive during the current outbreak. By Tuesday, 337 of them had been successfully treated.
