NAGPUR: A 26-year-old eight months' pregnant woman was found suffering from swine flu at Kasturba Hospital, Sewagram. A day after delivering a baby boy prematurely, the mother succumbed to the disease last Friday. Fortunately, the baby didn't contract the disease from his mother.

Meanwhile, swine flu toll of Nagpur circle of state's public health department rose to 88 by Wednesday with the death of two more patients.

H1N1 claims two more lives in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Two senior citizens succumbed to complications from H1N1, taking the number of people who died of the disease in city hospitals since January, to 33, civic officials said on Wednesday. As the difference between maximum and minimum temperatures continued to rise, doctors feared the swine flu wave may not subside soon.

BMC epidemiology officer Dr Mangala Gomare said the downward trend in swine flu had not yet started. "We receive 40 positive cases daily. The only message to people is to go as early as possible to the doctor,'' she said.

5 more swine flu deaths reported

Nagpur: Deaths of five patients suffering from swine flu were reported in the Nagpur circle by the state public health department on Thursday. This took the official count of swine flu related deaths since January 1 in the region to 93. Two of these deaths were in urban Nagpur, two in Akola division and 1 in Gondia.

"Death toll of swine flu patients in the hospital rose by two on Thursday. One of these deceased patients was 54-year-old Fatimabi from Amravati and the other was Mouda resident Lata Sapate, 26, who had passed away on Wednesday," informed an official from GMCH. The swine flu ward of the hospital currently has 11 confirmed and 7 suspected patients admitted, he added.

Review panel confirms only 17 of 33 deaths in city

The seven-member swine flu deaths review committee meeting has confirmed only 17 out of the 33 reported deaths in the city ruling out others as non-confirmed or pending for analysis. The meeting was held at KEM Hospital on Thursday where experts from private, public and BMC hospitals met to study the cases.
?We have not completely ruled out the other cases. In the confirmed cases of death, there were visible symptoms of swine flu, but in many others it was not. The remaining unconfirmed swine flu death cases are yet to be examined,? said Dr Mangala Gomare, epidemiologist of the city.

Mumbai : Swine flu claimed one more life in the city that of a 63-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai, taking the city?s death toll to 34 so far this year. However, after the BMC?s Death Review Committee meeting, which was held on Thursday, the civic body has ruled out two deaths claiming that those patients were not confirmed as H1N1 patients.

Swine flu death toll now 94 since Jan 1

NAGPUR: With the death of 40-year-old Ishwar Ukey of Pauni in Bhandara district at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), the death toll in region has touched 94 since January 1, this year.

A GMCH official said that Ukey died at 5.15pm on Friday evening. With this, the death toll at GMCH has touched 40. The total number of deaths reported from the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College (IGGMC) so far is 18.

On Friday only three samples were processed for H1N1 infection but all turned out to be negative.

Dr Jaiswal also clarified that the newspaper reports claiming more death in Nagpur and Vidarbha is not more than Pune. "Media should only report deaths as per information given by the DDHS office and not from medical colleges or private hospitals. Unless we do not get a confirmed H1N1 death report in a particular form we do not declare it as swine flu death," he said.

March 12, four people died of swine flu - the highest in a day since the disease showed up in Mumbai this year. In 2009, when the virus first made significant impact, the state declared a pandemic after 1,497 people were infected in Mumbai, and 30 died.

"Pandemic is a term used when all the continents are affected. This year, the spurt is being seen only in India and no where else," said the state's epidemiologist Dr Pradeep Awate. The state government is treating it simply as an outbreak, he said.

As the disease spread this year, survivors quarantined themselves at home. February 25, this newspaper reported about a family where all seven members were sequestered in various corners of their expansive bungalow near Breach Candy because no city hospital - private or otherwise - had adequate isolation facilities.

A week later we visited another such family, in Thane. This household of four had passed on the virus to each other; they were quarantined in cramped quarters. They too were turned away by several hospitals. "My younger sister was the first one to test positive. We tried to admit her in Fortis, Hiranandani, and Jaslok but none of them had sufficient isolation beds," said the family's younger daughter. Her mother also contracted the disease, followed by her father and elder sister.

45-year-old woman succumbs to swine flu

PUNE: With four more positive cases recorded on Sunday, the total number of H1N1 positive patients in the city reached 728. Pimpri-Chinchwad area received five new positive cases and the total ahs gone upto 302.

One death was recorded in Pimpri-Chinchwad area which took the H1N1 death toll in Pune district to 66 this year. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, this was the 24th person to die of H1N1 disease. A female aged 45 years died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Rajgurunagar and was admitted to the hospital on March 15. Isolation wards have been created in some of the major hospitals to deal with the patients of H1N1.

22 swine flu deaths in Nashik district this year

Swine flu has claimed 22 lives since this January in Nashik district, as per reports. So far, 124 positive cases have been reported, most of them from urban areas.

According to the zilla parishad health department, eight men and 14 women have died this year so far, making this the highest number of deaths due to swine flu since 2012.

Swine flu claims another life in city

Yet another female patient succumbed to swine flu in the city at Kolkilaben Ambani Hospital on Monday night. The 42-year old Surat resident was admitted to the hospital after she had developed swine flu-like symptoms.
?Though proper details have not come from the hospital as yet, as per the acquired information she was down with flu and was tested positive on arrival to Mumbai. She was admitted to the hospital until her condition deteriorated and she succumbed to her illness,? said Dr Mangala Gomare, epidemiologist, BMC.
The patient had been suffering from swine flu since March 2 and was admitted to a private hospital in Surat until she was moved to the hospital in Andheri.
