Dengue Detected In 109 Localities Last Week

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- Dengue fever was detected in 109 localities in 30 districts nationwide in the week ending Feb 26, with nine of the localities identified as hotspots, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said Wednesday.

He said six of the hotspots were in Selangor, two in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and one in Johor...

...He also said that the number of dengue cases had risen by 10 to 430 in the week ending Feb 26 and included one death, of a 63-year-old man in Johor, on Feb 23...


...On chikungunya, he said one case was reported during that week, bringing to seven the number of cases so far this year, down by 98 per cent compared to the 416 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year...

Drop In Dengue Cases

PUTRAJAYA, March 10 (Bernama)-- A total of 393 cases of dengue fever, with one death, were reported between Feb 27 and March 5, nationwide, a drop of 37 cases from 430 cases the pervious week.

Health director-general, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, said the dengue victim who died was a 26 year-old teacher from Penang, who succumbed to the illness after four days of being infected by the disease...

...On chikungunya, two cases were reported in Perak for the same period, bringing the total number of cases this year to nine cases, a drop of 98 per cent from 432 cases reported during the corresponding period last year.

Dengue cases rise, new death in Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: A dengue-related death in Selangor, coupled with a hike in the number of dengue cases, were reported from March 27 to April 2.

For that week, 336 cases were reported, reflecting an increase of 35 cases, in comparison to 301 cases in the previous week.


Health director-general Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said the death involved a 43-year-old woman who worked as an assistant accounts manager at a private company.

He said seven states which showed a hike in cases as compared to the previous week were Terengganu with 14 cases, Selangor (nine), Johor (eight), Kelantan (seven), Perak (six), Negeri Sembilan (three) and Pahang (one).

On Chikungunya, two cases were reported from March 27 to April 2, as compared to one in the previous week.


Both cases occurred in Selangor and Pahang, bringing the total number to 13.

Dengue fatalities, cases down this year

SUBANG JAYA: Community-based efforts nationwide helped reduce the number of fatal dengue cases by 78% in the first 10 months of this year, compared with the same period in 2010.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that as of Oct 16 this year, a total of 15,524 dengue cases with 26 deaths were recorded, against 39,264 cases with 117 deaths for the same period last year.

He attributed the reduction in dengue cases and fatalities to efforts at the grassroot level to combat the deadly menace.
