PETALING JAYA - If last year was bad, the dengue problem could be far worse this year. The number of cases has been soaring since November, with a whopping 3,337 cases on the first week of this year alone.

That is 1,000 cases more than the average of 2,300 cases per week last year.

The last week of December saw 2,511 cases reported with four deaths.

On top of these high numbers, the Health Ministry has warned that the El Nino effect could cause a 50 per cent spike...

Dengue Cases Continue To Soar, More Than 7,000 Cases This Year

PUTRAJAYA: Dengue cases are continuing to soar, with a total of 7,020 cases recorded nationwide from January 3 to 23.

The Health Ministry's iDengue website showed that Selangor still have the highest number of cases with 3,609.

The website also indicates that Johor is not far behind with 1,137 cases.

This is followed by Kuala Lumpur (499), Penang (366), Perak (276) and Negri Sembilan (231) cases from Jan 3 to Jan 23.

The only state that has remained off the dengue radar is Federal Territory Labuan while Putrajaya has 27 cases.

From Jan 3 to Jan 16, a total of 14 people have died of dengue...

Dengue claims two more victims in Negri Sembilan

A nurse and a businessman are the latest victims of dengue fever in Negri Sembilan, dying within the past week at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar (HTJ), Seremban.

The fatalities bring the death toll in the state to three so far this year.

?The nurse, 34, died a day after seeking treatment on January 23, due to organ failure after being diagnosed with dengue,? said state health director Dr Abdul Rahim Abdullah.

37 dengue deaths since January this year - Subramaniam

BANGI: Thirty-seven deaths were reported nationwide due to dengue fever since January 1 to February 2 this year, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam.

He said Selangor continued to record the highest number of deaths with 12 cases.

"15,251 dengue fever cases were recorded nationwide and from that total 7,355 cases occurred in Selangor, and the total of death cases were 37.

"Selangor recorded 12 cases of death, Penang seven cases, Terengganu six cases, Negeri Sembilan five cases and Johor two cases," he told reporters after visiting Apartment Seri Cempaka in Bandar Baru Bangi here today...

Lim Guan Eng says drastic rise in dengue is "worrisome" and wants all Penangites to take steps to keep their surroundings clean and eliminate potential Aedes breeding grounds.


PETALING JAYA: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has cautioned the people about the importance of keeping their surroundings clean as the dengue menace continued to be a threat and had claimed the lives of eight people in the first five weeks of 2016 alone.

According to reports, this was an alarming 400 per cent leap from only two deaths reported in the same period last year.

So far this year, Penang recorded 5,830 dengue cases, which was 92.2 per cent or 2,796 cases more than the 3,034 cases reported in the corresponding period last year...

Dengue fever cases still high in Selangor

KLANG: Reported cases of dengue fever in Selangor are still high and there is no indication that the numbers will be decreasing soon.

Selangor Health Department Vector Department deputy director Dr Sharifah Malihah Wan Mustapha said infection trend in the state could be considered high as well...

...Dr Sharifah Malihah said there were 7,239 reported dengue cases in Selangor in January and 2,355 cases from the 1st to the 11th of this month...

Selangor committee demands answers as dengue cases top 11,000 in 7 weeks

Dengue has now officially been recognised as an epidemic, with a record 11,201 cases and 11 deaths in Selangor since the start of the year.

Meanwhile, in 2015, Selangor recorded 64,198 dengue cases and 127 deaths, the highest number in the country. In terms of areas, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council reported 10,508 cases, followed by Shah Alam City Council (8,160), Petaling Jaya City Council (7,751) and Klang Municipal Council (7,198).

Statistics from the state health department reveal that the cases have risen significantly, with over 10,000 additional cases reported every year.

Hot Weather Contributes To Rise In Dengue Cases

The total number of dengue cases from January until April 2, 2016 also showed an 8.9 per cent increase to 37,190 cases compared to 34,144 cases during the same period last year, he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said monitoring by the Health Ministry showed that there were two fatalities reported in the 13th week, which were in Selangor.

"This year, 87 deaths were reported compared to 108 during the same period in 2015," he said.

Malaysia Registers 25,000 Cases of Dengue Fever in Three Months

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) Malaysia has registered nationally almost 25,000 cases of dengue fever, the Malaysian Public Health Vice Minister, Hilmi Yahaya has confirmed

Hilmi Yahaya stated that from January until April 24th, 42,683 cases have been reported, a rise of almost 5,000 in comparison with the same quarter last year.

Ninety-four people have died in the same period, which is a reduction on the 120 victims who succumbed to the disease in same quarter in 2015...

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 42,683 dengue cases were reported nationwide between January to April 24 this year, an increase of 4,165 cases from 38,517 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said 94 deaths due to dengue were also reported during the period this year compared to 120 deaths reported in the same period in 2015...

Penang government sponsors 10 fogging machines worth over RM58,000 to help control dengue in the state.

GEORGE TOWN: An uncontrolled dengue epidemic has been detected in Machang Bubok, Bukit Mertajam, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today.

He said the Machang Bubok village area recorded 13 dengue cases, which began on May 11.

?Health authorities say the epidemic is expected to end by the end of June...

....Meanwhile, the latest dengue statistics in Penang showed an overall reduction of 25 in cases compared with last year.

A total of 1,765 cases were reported from Jan 1 until June 4, down 612 cases from the 2,377 cases recorded in the corresponding period last year.

Ten dengue deaths were also reported in the state up to June 4 this year, compared with six in the corresponding period last year...

More dengue cases but no report of zika virus

KUALA LUMPUR: Dengue fever is on the rise again nationwide with an increase of 2,017 cases reported between June 26 and July 2 (Week 26) as compared to 1,777 cases the previous week.

"The cumulative cases of dengue fever from January up to July 2 stood at 57,782 cases compared to 59,365 cases during the corresponding period last year, a decline of 2.7 per cent (1,583 cases)," he said in a statement on Saturday.

Dr Noor Hisham said 10 dengue fatalities were reported in Week 26, making the total number of deaths at 132 compared to 165 deaths during the corresponding period last year.

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry's effort to combat dengue together with the Rakyat seemed to be paying off as there were only 65,618 dengue cases with 147 deaths reported between January 1 and July 30 this year as compared with 70,680 cases and 190 deaths during the same period last year.

In a statement issued today, the ministry advised the Rakyat not to let their guard down in terms of keeping their houses and surroundings clean.

KUALA NERUS, Aug 18 ? The Terengganu Health Department recorded 1,632 cases of dengue fever as of Tuesday, an increase of 141.1 per cent or 677 cases compared with the same period last year.

Its director, Dr Mohammad Omar said although the number was still higher than last year?s, it was a relief because there was no critical dengue infection as what had occurred at the beginning of this year.

?There?s only one outbreak that is around Masjid Abdul Kadir near Gong Tok Nasek here which has recorded 13 dengue cases so far...

Dengue cases in Malaysia see 11 per cent decline

KUALA LUMPUR: Dengue cases in Malaysia are the decline, with 89,243 cases recorded as of October 29 compared to 100,665 cases in the corresponding period last year.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, speaking in Parliament today, said the cumulative cases indicated an 11.3 per cent (11,422) drop.

"Meanwhile, the cumulative dengue death toll as of October 29 stands at 202 compared to 277 deaths in the corresponding period last year which indicates a 27.1 per cent drop (75 deaths)," said the Segamat MP in response to a question by PKR's Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul.

The downward trend in dengue cases, Dr Subramaniam said, could be attributed to the integrated efforts and actions of ministries, agencies and the community at large in preventing dengue...

A total of 92,891 dengue cases with 214 deaths was recorded nationwide from January to November this year, compared with 106,757 cases and 293 deaths for the same period last year.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the situation has trended downward 13% or 13,866 dengue cases.

?Selangor is a major contributor to dengue cases at 51.3% or 47,257 cases of the overall number of cases.?...
