Health Ministry confirms nationwide spike in dengue cases

BALIK PULAU, Jan 25 ? Dengue cases are on the rise, with Selangor recording the highest number in one week, according to Health Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

He cited disorganised garbage collection as a factor for the spread of dengue in the state.

?In the course of one week, there were almost 3,000 cases nationwide, of which more than 1,000 were in Selangor,? he told reporters after the presentation of 1Malaysia People?s Aid (BR1M) in Balik Pulau here today.

He named Petaling as the area in Selangor with the highest number of dengue cases.

Two dengue-related deaths were recorded this month in Penang compared with none during the same period last year.

Chairman of the Penang Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Rural Development and Health Committee, Dr Afif Bahardin said the situation was worrying as the number of dengue fever cases in the state was not going down despite various efforts to eradicate the spread of the Aedes mosquito.

Dengue on the rise: More than 15,000 cases recorded as of February this year

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 ― A total of 15,039 dengue cases have been recorded as of February 7 this year, an increase of 59 per cent or 5,586 cases, compared with 9,453 cases during the corresponding period last year.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a total of 44 deaths due to dengue were reported during the period this year, from 17 in the corresponding period last year.

?For 2015, there has been an increase in dengue cases every week, and during the fifth week (Feb 1 to 7), 3,037 dengue cases with eight fatalities were reported,? he said in a statement today.

Dengue fever deaths up to 54 in Malaysia

The number of dengue fever related fatalities in Malaysia has increased by 10 since our last report one week ago, bringing the total deaths to 54 since the beginning of the year.

Malaysia health officials put the country?s dengue tally at 22,464 through Feb. 23. Selangor continues to report the most cases in the country with more than half the total.

Selangor dengue fever cases up by 66 per cent

SHAH ALAM: Dengue fever cases in Selangor continue to rise with 12,427 cases recorded until Feb 21 compared to only 7,507 cases over the corresponding period last year, up by 66 per cent.

State Health, Welfare, Women Affairs and Family Committee chairman, Dr Daroyah Alwi said yesterday, of the total, 29 death cases were reported.

?There were 17 death cases in January while 12 cases were recorded until Feb 21, bringing the total to 29 cases,? he told a press conference, here.

Petaling district recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 5,967 followed by Hulu Langat (2,222) and Klang with 1,824 cases.

March 1 ? Perak has seen a 138 per cent jump in dengue cases for the first seven weeks of 2015 compared with the equivalent period last year.

A total of 2,305 cases have been reported in the state between January 1 and February 21 compared with 966 cases during the same period last year.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Noordiyanah Hassan said 1,430 cases were reported in areas under the jurisdiction of the Ipoh City Council alone.

She said the areas accounted for 62.1 per cent of all the cases reported statewide but noted no deaths were reported so far...

23,630 dengue cases nationwide within two months
From Jan 1 until Feb 28, there has been 69 deaths due to dengue fever.
BUTTERWORTH: Dengue fever cases continue to rise with 23,630 cases recorded nationwide as at Feb 28, compared with 16,053 cases for the corresponding period last year, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya.

"Dengue deaths also increased to 62 from 29 during the period with Selangor recording 34 deaths and Selangor alone had 13,866 cases, Perak 2,552 cases followed by Johor, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya," he told reporters after launching a state level Price Reduction Campaign here Sunday.

Malaysia health officials noted that as of last weekend, the death toll in the country due to dengue fever has drawn ever closer to the 100 mark with the health ministry reporting 98 dengue-related deaths since the beginning of the year.

With the addition of 323 new dengue cases reported Tuesday, the cumulative total across all states is now 32,143 with Selangor state reporting the most with over 19,000 cases alone...
 
Three more deaths in Malaysia due to dengue

Three more deaths due to dengue were reported in a period of four days since Sunday, bringing the dengue death toll this year to 104.

Health Ministry Deputy Director-General Datuk Dr Lokman Hakim Sulaiman said the number of deaths caused by dengue increased by 76.3 percent as compared to the same period last year which only registered 59 cases (January until April 2).

?A total 890 new dengue cases were reported for the four-day period since Sunday, making the total dengue cases or this year until Thursday to rise to 33,425 cases as compared to 24,510 cases during the same period last year,? he told reporters after the launching of the Dengue Free Malaysia Movement (DFMM), Saturday.

BUTTERWORTH: Central Seberang Perai in Penang has recorded the highest number of dengue cases in the state - 661 cases - so far.

Penang recorded 1,726 cases between Jan 1 and May 2, compared to 640 cases for the same period in 2014...

KEPALA BATAS: The number of dengue cases in Penang has seen an almost three-fold increase with 2,012 cases reported till May 20 this year compared to only 704 for the same period last year.

State Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said there were six deaths for the period this year as compared to three for the corresponding period last year...

GEORGE TOWN, June 3 ? Five months into the year and Penang has already recorded an increase of 200 per cent or 734 more dengue cases compared with the last corresponding period.

The number of deaths have also increased 100 per cent from three to six.

Death Due To Dengue Increases By 100 Per Cent
PUTRAJAYA, June 12 (Bernama) -- The total number of deaths due to dengue fever in the first six months of the year increased 100 per cent over that of last year, said director-general of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said from January until June 6 this year, 144 deaths were recorded compared to 72 cases in the same period last year.

"Complications like liver and kidney failures as well as 'shock syndrome' is more likely to occur in patients infected with dengue fever," he said in a statement here today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The spike in the number of dengue cases this year is the highest in Malaysia?s history and the problem could be endemic, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.

There have been twice as many deaths this years compared to last year with 157 fatalities in the first six months, and more than 40,000 cases, an increase of more than 30%.

He said the ministry was expecting a larger number of cases this year with a new serotype infecting humans. There are four dengue serotypes...

KUALA LUMPUR: The cumulative cases of dengue reported from January to June 27 this year had shown an increase of 34%, or 56,533 cases, compared to 42,229 cases in the corresponding period last year.

Compared with last year, a total of 44,518 cases with 85 deaths were recorded for the same period. 10 dengue deaths over Hari Raya weekend

PETALING JAYA: Ten people died of dengue last week, bringing the death toll between Jan 1 and July 25 to 185 cases.

The Health Ministry said the deaths occurred during the Hari Raya holidays from July 19 to 25, when many had left their houses unattended to "balik kampung" or go on vacation.

During the week, a total of 2,549 dengue cases were reported, bringing the cases for the period between Jan 1 and July 25 to 67,944 cases as compared to 51, 987 cases during the same corresponding period last year.

The ministry said they also identified 246 aedes hotspots, with 168 of them being in Selangor, 64 in Johor, 10 in Perak and four in Penang...
