Measles case 'suspected' in St. Mary's

The St. Mary?s County Health Department this morning backed off its announcement of a ?confirmed? case of the measles from the weekend, instead saying it is still investigating a patient at MedStar St. Mary?s Hospital who had a ?suspected case? of the illness.

The health department was still warning of potential public exposure to anyone who was at the Leonardtown hospital?s emergency room on Sunday, March 3, from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dr. Meena Brewster, St. Mary?s health officer, said in an interview Tuesday morning that the state had confirmed through a test that a St. Mary?s toddler had measles. However, she was later notified the test may not have been accurate, and another test was underway Tuesday with results expected that afternoon...

MARYLAND ? A third Maryland resident has been diagnosed with measles, according to the Maryland Department of Health. People who visited three Pikesville locations, including two grocery stores, may have been exposed to the potentially fatal virus, health officials advised.

News of the third case of measles in the area came Wednesday, one day after state health officials confirmed the second Maryland resident had been diagnosed....
