Measures in Panama for increased flu cases

June 26, 2010, 08:20 Panama, June 26 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian health authorities called on people to step up prevention measures against the surge of influenza, with 62 000 698 cases recorded at the end of last June 12 .
According to Ministry of Health, this behavior is due to the cyclical nature of the illness, which gains strength with the arrival of the rains.
The experts mentioned the presence of variants A and B of seasonal influenza (H3N2), in addition to the A (H1N1) and last year left 11 dead.
The Social Security Fund (CCS) confirmed the deaths of six adults over 70 years in the past two weeks due to respiratory complications from the flu.
Against this, the ministry's call to avoid going outside in case of disease, extreme hygiene measures and go to the vaccination centers authorized.
Also activated capabilities and additional staff for the attention of the cases that come to emergency rooms in health centers.
