Mexico maintains epidemiological operating in disaster areas

July 20, 2010, 13:05 Mexico, July 20 (PL) The territories in northeastern Mexico, devastated by Hurricane Alex, disease outbreaks remain, but continue in active medical teams and for vector control due to the contingency announced today the Ministry of Health.
As reported by the National Center for Preventive Programs and Disease Control (CENAPRECE) in Nuevo Le?n work support teams from other states such as Tabasco, Veracruz, Chihuahua and Yucatan, and two water treatment plants sent by the emergency.
In temporary shelters, medical units, hostels and care modules were carried out to date over 29,300 consultations for acute respiratory infections, parasitic infections, acute diarrheal diseases, fever, conjunctivitis, trauma and other ailments, said the institution.
Prevention is also applied in Nuevo Le?n almost 25 000 doses of vaccines against hepatitis A and B, tetanus, rotavirus diarrhea, pneumonia and influenza A (H1N1), while continuing the delivery of oral rehydration and colloidal silver to the population through visits the homes, said CENAPREC.
In Tamaulipas and Coahuila, the other two states affected by the storm, remains similar surveillance, the government agency said.
