ANN ARBOR, MI - Ann Arbor-area families should be aware that cases of pertussis, also known as "whooping cough," and hand, foot and mouth disease have been reported in Washtenaw County.

South Arbor Charter Academy in Ypsilanti has notified families that at least one student had been diagnosed with each of the illnesses in October...

...In Washtenaw County, 27 to 31 cases of pertussis have been reported as of the end of the September, according to the Washtenaw County Public Health department.

In 2010, the county experienced a "significant outbreak" of whooping cough with 233 confirmed cases, and Washtenaw County saw 199 and 110 cases in 2013 and 2014, respectively. The number dropped to 71 in 2015...
