Saginaw County added to Michigan's Hepatitis A outbreak

SAGINAW COUNTY (WJRT) (2/14/2018) - Saginaw County is the latest join the list of counties in Michigan's ongoing Hepatitis A outbreak.

Entering its 19th month, the outbreak is being blamed for 736 cases of Hepatitis A, 596 hospitalizations and 24 deaths as of Feb. 6.

Saginaw County has seen two Hepatitis A cases confirmed as part of the outbreak...

Hepatitis A reported to a food handler at Olga?s Kitchen

Anyone who consumed food or drink prepared at Olga?s in Monroe between Feb. 24 and today may have been exposed to the virus.

The Monroe County Health Department has been notified of a confirmed case of Hepatitis A in a food handler who worked at Olga?s Kitchen, 2072 N. Telegraph Road.
In the announcement made Wednesday, the health department explains that anyone who consumed food or drink prepared at the restaurant between Feb. 24 and today (March 14) may have been exposed to the Hepatitis A virus.

As a result, the health department recommends vaccination with Hepatitis A vaccine, or treatment with immune globulin for individuals who can?t receive the vaccine. In the meantime, the health department is working closely with the restaurant to vaccinate all employees and to eliminate any additional risk of exposure...

Inmate in Flint City Lockup diagnosed with Hepatitis A, exposing other inmates

FLINT (WJRT) (3/26/2018) - The Genesee County Health Department issued a warning that anyone who was taken to the Flint City Lockup from Feb. 27 to March 22 may have been exposed to Hepatitis A.

An inmate who was there during that time was diagnosed with a confirmed case of the virus.

The health department is urging everyone who was in the facility during those dates to get vaccinated, which officials say is the best defense against the virus. A vaccination given within 14 days after exposure can prevent the disease...

Hepatitis A case confirmed at Fenton Winery & Brewery

FENTON TWP, MI -- The Genesee County Health Department is advising people that recently visited Fenton Winery and Brewery to receive treatment following the confirmation of a Hepatitis A case in an employee.

Any guests who consumed food or drinks at the facility, located at 1370 N. Long Lake Road in Fenton Township, between May 26 and May 31 may have been exposed, according to a public health advisory...

Michigan Hepatitis A Outbreak

Public health officials and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are continuing to see an elevated number of hepatitis A cases in the state.
Since the beginning of the outbreak in August 2016, public health response has included increased healthcare awareness efforts, public notification and education, and outreach with vaccination clinics for high-risk populations.No common sources of food, beverages, or drugs have been identified as a potential source of infection. Transmission appears to be through direct person-to-person spread and illicit drug use. Those with history of injection and non-injection drug use, homelessness or transient housing, and incarceration are thought to be at greater risk in this outbreak setting. Notably, this outbreak has had a high hospitalization rate.
