Ministry to look into girl?s death
KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will release the report on the death of a four-year-old girl, whose mother claimed she had been infected by Influenza A(H1N1) and not given proper treatment.
Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he had instructed his officers to investigate the case after the mother disclosed the incident to the media on Thursday.
The mother had claimed that a private hospital in Kuantan had diagnosed her daughter as not infected by A(H1N1) after carrying out a rapid test.
She said her daughter, who was admitted to the hospital on March 31, was not treated as a result and died on April 3.
She added that a younger daughter, admitted to a private hospital here after showing the same symptoms, was confirmed to be an A(H1N1) patient and recovered after receiving proper treatment.
Liow said a rapid test result to detect A(H1N1) would not be able to confirm if a person was H1N1 positive.
?The result of the test can only act as a reference. If the test results on a person is negative, it does not mean that he or she is not infected with the disease,? he told reporters after opening the 14th annual scientific meeting of the National Heart Association of Malaysia at a hotel here yesterday.
Liow said the country was not facing a second A(H1N1) outbreak. ?However, the ministry is monitoring the situation closely.
?There are 560 cases of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) in the country and the patients are being warded,? he said...
