A increase in Stearns County tuberculosis cases has strained the public health department's resources and spurred a request for additional staff.
Twenty years ago, it was common to see one or fewer cases of active TB in the county in a typical year. Now, the county routinely sees three to eight active TB cases a year.
Last year, the county public health staff was following up on 14 active and 138 inactive cases to contain the spread of the disease, requiring a "monumental effort," Human Services Administrator Mark Sizer told the county board last week.
