School district responding to chickenpox cases at Bode

St. Joseph School District officials have taken steps to control the spread of an outbreak of chickenpox cases at Bode Middle School.

Coordinator of Health Services Eileen Duty said Monday the district determined there were eight confirmed chickenpox cases at the school. Three students had the disease as of the morning of May 2, and Mrs. Duty said three students were sent home May 3 and May 4.

Once a threshold of five to six cases is reached, the district must then notify state health officials that an outbreak ? by definition ? has occurred. That confirmation, through cooperation with the state, came last Wednesday...
