Health officials have identified seven suspected cases of mumps in Boone County...

...Waner said the cases were identified based on patients' symptoms, and confirmation is pending laboratory tests. The tests might be done by the end of the week, she said...

...University of Missouri spokesman Christian Basi said in a statement that MU is assisting the health department in notifying everyone ? including students, prospective students and recent campus visitors ? who may have come in contact with individuals who had mumps symptoms.

Basi said medical privacy laws prevent him from confirming whether any cases were found on campus...

Five University of Missouri students contracted mumps, health officials said, and there are two more suspected cases in Boone County.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services spokeswoman Andrea Waner declined to specify where the two unconfirmed cases originated. Lab results should be known by the end of the week, she said...

Sixth Boone County mumps case confirmed, more cases pending

Lab results have confirmed a sixth Boone County mumps case, and tests on a possible seventh case came back negative, health officials said Monday.

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services expects lab results for four more suspected cases by the end of the week...

Mumps outbreak in Columbia may be up to 15 cases

The health department in Boone County has launched an investigation to determine the origin and cause of a mumps outbreak that may have affected 15 people so far in Columbia.

Seven of the first cases were University of Missouri students ages 20 to 23, a health department official said. More than 13,000 students have been on campus for summer sessions, which end Friday. Thousands more students will begin moving onto campus in less than three weeks for fall classes, which begin Aug. 24...

Seventh student at MU tests positive for mumps

A seventh mumps case has been confirmed in Boone County, health officials said Friday. All seven individuals are University of Missouri students and had received the two-dose vaccination for the viral illness.

Test results confirmed five mumps cases last week. Dave Vrana, lab analyst with the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, said the seventh case was confirmed Thursday afternoon and the department was expecting to receive lab results from three potential cases Friday afternoon.

This seventh confirmed case is the eighth case to be tested ? one case was negative for mumps. That individual was also an MU student who had been vaccinated...

Ninth mumps case confirmed among MU students

A ninth mumps case was confirmed among University of Missouri students, health officials said.

Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services spokeswoman Andrea Waner said there also were four probable cases among MU students, meaning lab results came back negative but the individuals exhibit mumpslike symptoms.

The health department is awaiting lab results from three potential mumps cases...

COLUMBIA ? Two more MU students were confirmed to have mumps Thursday, bringing the number of known cases to nine.

MU spokesman Christian Basi said he could not comment on whether the outbreak was specific to MU Residential Life because of federal privacy laws. According to a flier posted in the Defoe-Graham residence hall, which is open to students during the summer, Residential Life was notified on July 24 that a student in the hall was diagnosed with mumps. According to the flier, the student left the hall and would not return until he or she was no longer contagious...
