Compared to last year Mon State has seen a rise in dengue hemorrhagic fever, which severely affects children.

Dengue fever is spread by mosquitoes and is most common during the rainy season when mosquitoes are more frequent.

More Dengue Fever in Mon StateAccording to Dr. Min Tin Htay, the head of Thanbyuzayat Township Hospital, from April until June 2015, about 170 children were sent to Thanbyuzayat Town Public Hospital suffering from dengue fever.

Dengue fever cases continue to rise

Experts say that the rate of dengue hemorrhagic fever is rising, and may get worse as the rainy season progresses. As of June 23, 9893 patients have contracted the disease so far this year, and 43 have died, according to the Ministry of Health.

Dr Khin Nan Lon, a project manager with the ministry?s dengue hemorrhagic fever unit, said incidence tends to rise in the wet season.

?During July and August the rate could increase to match the 2013 outbreak. People should be alert to the risk: Keep your homes clean and make sure there is no standing water in which insects can breed,? she said.

This year?s figures are significantly up on those from 2014. Between January 1 and May 26 last year, 3667 patients contracted the fever, eight of whom died. During the same period this year, the corresponding figures were 5092 and 17, more than doubling the death rate.

The Ministry of Health said the total number of cases in 2013 was 20,255, and 13,086 in 2014.

Dengue fever on rise in Myanmar

Yangon (dpa) ? At least 45 people have died of dengue fever in Myanmar this year, an official said Monday.
The fever has infected at least 10,918 people in the first six months of this year, according to the Health Ministry.

Dengue outbreak kills 48 in 2015

YANGON -- Between January 1 and June 26, 11,267 dengue fever cases were reported in Myanmar, and 48 people have died of the disease across the nation. The rate of infection and death is still increasing, according to the Public Health Department in Nay Pyi Taw.

Ayeyawady Region has suffered the most from the outbreak with 2,362 cases of infection and seven deaths. A total of 1,508 dengue fever cases were reported in Yangon Region, causing 11 deaths, including that of an infant, according to the region?s public health department.

Dengue fever kills 60 in Myanmar so far this year

YANGON, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Dengue fever has killed 60 people in Myanmar as of July 10 since its outbreak in January, local media Messenger reported Sunday.

The disease has infected more than 10,000 people in the country this year, doubling last year's figure, the Ministry of Health was quoted as saying.
