New Delhi: The national capital has overtaken all states in swine flu count. Of the 200 cases confirmed on Tuesday, 63 were from Delhi and Rajasthan. The total number of cases detected in Delhi till Tuesday was 3,900, marginally higher than Maharashtra's 3,838. The number for the country was 15,926.
Experts said the number of swine flu cases was likely to shoot up in north India over the next two months.
"Winter is the breeding season for all kinds of influenza. But we are keeping an eye on cluster reporting. That would give us an idea of the spread," VM Katoch, director, Indian Council of Medical Research, said.
Maharashtra, which has been the epicenter of H1N1, is witnessing a steady decline in the number of cases. Only 25 cases were confirmed in the state on Tuesday, while Karnataka had four cases.
Fortunately, the number of deaths in Delhi has been low -- 18 of 534 in the country. Maharashtra (214) tops the list, followed by Karnataka (119).
Schoolchildren are most vulnerable to the virus and schools are isolating and sending back home students reporting sick.
