10-02-2011 15:35 New flu virus revealed by Khmelnytsky medical workers

A unique discovery was confirmed by specialists from London. The virus has a very peculiar structure and belongs to АH3N2 type. According to a tradition, the newly discovered virus will most likely be called "Khmelnytsky."

Head of the Virology Laboratory of Khmelnytsky Regional Sanitary-Epidemiological Station Valentyna Lukianchuk specified that Khmelnytsky medical workers also have detected many B types and information has already come from Texas that they will be used in vaccine production.

Re: New flu virus revealed by Khmelnytsky medical workers

We have had at least one previous report of a "new" flu in the Ukraine:

http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155743

which was in Lugansk. It turned out (see the above thread) that all that was new about it was that it came from a new place.

It remains to be seen how "new" this latest report is. The candidates include a drifted seasonal H3N2, trH3N2, some other swine H3N2 flu virus, or even seasonal flu plus a repeat of the above error.
