PUTRAJAYA: Nine students from a religious school in Kuala Kangsar were among 12 people tested positive for Influenza A(H1N1) over the past 24 hours.

The nine from SM Agama Ad-Diniah Al-Islamiah were among 21 students in the school down with influenza-like illness.

Others tested positive for the flu were two students from SJKC Sin Hwa in Batu Pahat, Johor, and a case at the immigration quarters in Padang Besar, Perlis.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said six cluster cases of influenza-like illness, involving 43 people, had also been recorded by health authorities.

?Those found positive with A(H1N1) have been given anti-viral treatment.

?The other influenza-like illness cluster cases are detected in the Sri Merdeka kindergarten in Batu Pahat, Johor; SPB Integrasi Kerdau in Temerloh, Pahang; and the Indera Pahlawan National Service camp in Maran, Pahang,? he said in a statement here yesterday.

Dr Ismail said that as of Saturday evening, a total of 534 patients were treated in hospitals nationwide for influenza-like illness, of whom 70 had been tested positive for A(H1N1).

?Twelve patients are in intensive care, nine of whom are in the high-risk category.

?No deaths have been reported and the death toll currently remains at 78,? he added.

Out of Twelve Tested Nine Found Positive with H1N1


t has been reported that 12 students from a religious school in Kuala Kangsar, were tested for Influenza A (H1N1) over the past 24 hours, out of which nine of the students were found to be positive.

Those nine students from SM Agama Ad-Diniah Al-Islamiah were amongst the 21 students in the school to be suffering from a disease like influenza.

No deaths have been reported as yet and the death toll at present stays at 78.

Dr. Ismail also told the public how important it is for those in the high-risk group to look after their health and hygiene. He said that the vaccinations were available at 104 public health facilities all over the world.

75 New H1N1 Cases Detected


PUTRAJAYA, April 21 (Bernama) -- As of 5.30pm Tuesday, 75 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1) have been detected, bringing the total number of cases to 13,274.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said however, no new cases of death were reported yesterday.

Eleven people were undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit, of which eight were in the high-risk category, he said in a press statement issued by the health ministry Wednesday.

Nationwide, Dr Mohd Ismail said, 624 influenza-like illness (ILI) cases were reported, adding that 85 of those cases were confirmed to be H1N1 positive

As of 8am in Selangor and Melaka today, Dr Mohd Ismail said that health authorities received six reports pertainig to ILI cluster cases.

Family of four in Alor Gajah tests positve for A(H1N1)

PETALING JAYA: A family of four in Alor Gajah has tested positive for influenza A(H1N) in the latest number of influenza-like illness clusters reported to the Health Ministry.

A statement also said as at 8am on Wednesday, six ILI clusters have been reported.

The ministry said the four, who were also tested positive for influenza A(H1N1), have been given anti-viral treatment.

The family is from Kg Ganun, Alor Gajah in Malacca.

Other cluster cases were reported in SMK Sri Aman in Section 14, Petaling Jaya, with one patient tested positive for A(H1N1), a family in Serendah, Selangor and another family in Jasin, Malacca.

Two members of the family in Serendah were tested positive of A(H1N1).

Health director-general Tan Sri Ismail Merican said as at 5.30pm on Tuesday, there had been 75 cases tested positive for the influenza, making it a total of 13,274 cases in the country.

Eleven people are still warded in the intensive care unit from A(H1N1).

No deaths have been reported.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 5-month-old baby boy was among three people who died of influenza A (H1N1) this week.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said one of the victims, a 53-year-old man, died because of the disease while the other two because of complications arising from it.

The man, who suffered from uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, hypertension, kidney failure and stroke, died at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

Dr Ismail said a 47-year-old man was admitted to Kuala Lumpur Hospital on April 17 and died three days later because of complications arising from influenza A.

On the baby boy, he said the infant suffered from hydrocephalus (water in the brain) and was admitted to University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre on March 15 for surgery and died on Wednesday.

As at 8am yesterday, the Health Ministry received 12 new influenza-like illness (ILI) cluster cases from Perak, Johor, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, Selangor, Malacca and here.


The new cases included 21 pupils of SK Temoh, Batang Padang, Perak; 70 pupils of SMK Puteri Wilayah, Kampung Baru, here and three workers of Kilang Keenway Industries, Kluang, Johor.

Dr Ismail said those with either ILI or H1N1 had been treated and quarantined either at their homes or hostels.

"In most cases we are waiting for laboratory results to ascertain if they are victims of H1N1."

He advised those who were under home quarantine to follow the health authorities' advice to ensure they did not spread the disease to others.

JOHOR BARU - Six new Influenza A(H1N1) clusters have been identified in the state.

Four clusters have been found at various schools in Kluang, Batu Pahat and Johor Baru, said state Women, Family, Health and Community Development Committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai.

One cluster was found at a kindergarten and a residential area in Batu Pahat, she added.


"There are also rumours about people being admitted in the intensive care unit for the influenza in Batu Pahat but I would like to inform the public that this is not true.

"We always maintain a transparent approach and the people will be informed of any new fatalities or serious cases," she told reporters after launching a programme on home-based businesses for women here yesterday.

Dr Robia said the state had recorded 168 confirmed A(H1N1) cases.

"Only one death was recorded and the bulk of cases was detected in Batu Pahat (71 cases) and Johor Baru (48 cases)," she said.

The clusters in the state are at SMK Paloh (Kluang), Taman Kristal 2 (Batu Pahat), Sekolah Vocational (Batu Pahat), Tadika Al-Alif (Batu Pahat), SRJK(T) Taman Tun Aminah (Johor Baru) and SRJK(C) Pandan (Johor Baru).

On a separate matter, Dr Robia warned businesswomen not to seek financial aid from loan sharks no matter how desperate their situation may be.

"Although many businesswomen may find that these Ah Long are the easiest way to get loans, they should also realise the consequences of borrowing from illegal money lenders," she said.

Eight Students From MRSM Bentong Test Positive For H1N1

BENTONG, April 26 (Bernama) -- Eight students from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Bentong here were confirmed as Influenza A (H1N1) positive said Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Liow said the eight were among 35 students from the college who were classified as a cluster case of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) since April 23.

"On April 23, six girls from MRSM Bentong were initially identified as ILI cluster case but the number increased to 16 on the same day. As of today, 35 were classified and kept in an isolated room in the school for treatment.

"They are being treated by doctors from the Bentong Hospital," he told reporters after visiting MRSM Bentong Monday.

Liow said samples taken from the eight students, tested positive for H1N1, and 15 others received anti-viral treatment while the rest were given symptomatic treatment.

He said the cluster ILI virus in MRSM Bentong was believed to have been brought in by outsiders who had attended the school's sports day last week.

50 H1N1 Cluster Symptoms Detected At Bentong MRSM

KUANTAN, April 28 (Bernama) -- Fifty cases of Influenza A (H1N1) cluster symptoms were detected at the Bentong Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) until yesterday.

Of them, 16 students, including 10 female students, are still confined to an isolation room at the college, said Pahang Local Government, Environment and Health Committee chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun.

He said three of them were referred to the Bentong Hospital for further examination.

"All infected students received anti-viral treatment and are in stable condition and their health are being monitored by medical specialists," he told reporters here on Wednesday.

He said to date 31 students were allowed to go home and briefed on prevention and control measures to observed during their isolation period at home.

The Bentong District Health Office will continue to monitor the students and staff of the college to detect any new cases of H1N1, he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 175,747 people have been vaccinated against Influenza A (H1N1) in Malaysia.


The breakdown: 76,613 health ministry?s frontliners, 49,407 front-line staff of other government agencies such as police and immigration officers and 49,727 members of the public.

Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican called on people in the high risk category to get vaccinated at the ministry's 104 health facilities.

He said they should take this advice seriously as many of those who died due to complications from H1N1 were people with diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart and lung diseases and kidney failure as well as the obese.

"Although the number of people getting vaccinated has increased over the past one month, we want many more to come forward, more so with the government giving the vaccine free of charge," he added.

Noting that 36 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1) were reported yesterday, Dr Ismail said: "We are not only getting new H1N1 cases every day but also new cluster Influenza-like Illness, especially among kindergarten kids, schoolchildren, national service trainees and members of the public.'


The total number of people infected in Malaysia with Influenza A (H1N1) since May last year is 13,709. Death The death toll is 81.

At present there are 590 people in hospitals nationwide with Influenza-like Illness and of the number 82 have been confirmed positive for H1N1.

Seven of the H1N1 victims are in intensive care units with five of them in serious condition.

Eight ILI cluster cases were reported yesterday. They included:

* 41 pupils of MRSM Pengkalan Hulu, Perak. One was admitted to hospital and the rest treated as outpatient. About 708 pupils were placed under observation

* two pupils of Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu, Kluang, Johor were treated as outpatient while 465 others were under observation

* three pupils of Sekolah Menengah Tun Aminah, Batu Pahat, Johor treated as outpatient while 1,454 others under observation

* four pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Mahmood 2, Kluang, Johor treated as outpatient while 434 under observation



* seven pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Mahmood 1, Kluang, Johor treated as outpatient while 847 under observation'

* three pupils of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dong, Raub, Pahang treated outpatient while 934 under observation



* four orang asli from Kg Meranti (Orang Asli) Nenasi, Pekan, Pahang treated as outpatient while 324 under observation.

Four more H1N1 positive cases identified in Ampang



KUALA LUMPUR: Four more Influenza A (H1N1) positive cases have been confirmed in Ukay Perdana, Ampang till 8.30am this morning, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.



The new cases raised the accumulated total so far to 13,748 people, he said in a statement here today.

He said three were admitted to private hospitals while another received outpatient treatment while all four were given anti-viral medication.

Individuals suffering from fever, cough, cold, pregnant women, diabetic patients, obese or those with symptoms of the H1N1 must seek treatment, and members of the public are encouraged to take preventive measures by getting vaccinated at 104 centres throughout the country, he said.

"Most deaths related to the H1N1 infection were those with high risk factors. When they suffer such complications, they are vulnerable to bacteria infection and can cause death in some cases," he said. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Seventy-six people are in hospitals nationwide with influenza A (H1N1).

They are among the 592 people admitted for suspected influenza A (H1N1) on Saturday evening.

Doctors are closely monitoring all suspected and confirmed H1N1 cases for complications.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said seven of the confirmed victims were being treated in the intensive care unit of hospitals, with five of them in the high-risk category.

Although no new cases of cluster influenza-like illness were reported since yesterday, Dr Ismail said they were still on high alert.

He reminded the public that it was important for them to practise a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet, regular exercise, lots of water and enough sleep.

He urged people in the high-risk group to strictly adhere to this advice as they were more susceptible to infections and complications.

"Pregnant women should also be extremely careful," said Dr Ismail, adding that those in the high-risk group must get themselves vaccinated against the disease.

34 new cases of A(H1N1) detected


PUTRAJAYA: Health authorities recorded 34 new cases of Influenza A (H1N1) over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected with the flu to 14,067 since the pandemic broke out last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said a total of 671 patients were being treated in hospitals for influenza-like illness (ILI) of which 12 have been admitted to the intensive care unit.

?I would like to remind the public that it is their social responsibility not to frequent public places if they are down with flu. Those who are ill must remain indoors.

?The Health Ministry is urging the public to be conscientious and take necessary precautions if they really need to leave the house,? he said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Ismail reminded those who were down with illness to wear face masks when they leave their homes, adding the public should also practice good hygiene.

He said two ILI cluster cases were reported in Selangor and Terengganu, adding that two family members in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor and eight students from Kolej Islam Teknologi in Terengganu were down with the flu.

Kindergarten kids among 36 down with flu-like illness

PUTRAJAYA: Four influenza-like illness (ILI) cluster cases were reported in Selangor, Pahang and Negri Sembilan on Monday, involving 36 people including kindergarten children.

Of the 16 children in Tadika Anak Riang in Puchong Jaya who were down with the illness, six were confirmed to have Influenza A(H1N1).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said two children were admitted to a private hospital while the rest were given outpatient and anti-viral treatment.

The other flu-like illness cases were at the Jugra National Service camp in Banting, Selangor (12 people); Drainage and Irrigation Department quarters area in Tekek in Rompin, Pahang (four); and in Taman Gunung Mas in Tampin, Negri Sembilan, involving four in a family.

Dr Ismail said 678 patients were being treated for flu-like illness at hospitals, of whom 83 were infected with A(H1N1).

?We have 12 patients being treated in the intensive care unit for A(H1N1) and seven of them are in the high-risk group,? he said yesterday.

10 More ILI Clusters Reported


PUTRAJAYA, May 14 (Bernama) -- Ten influenza-like illness (ILI) clusters were reported in eight states at at 8am Friday, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

The states affected were Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Sarawak, Johor, Melaka, Penang and Negeri Sembilan.

He said as of 5.30pm yesterday, a total of 661 ILI cases were being treated in hospitals nationwide, of which 77 were tested positive for Influenza A (H1N1).

"Thirteen cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with nine cases involving risk factors," he said in a statement here today, adding that the total number of H1N1 cases was now 14,307.

- three members of a family in Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, where two were confirmed positive and another treated as outpatient.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said 5,431 people, including students who came into contact with those with H1N1 symptoms, were now under observation.

"All those treated as outpatients must remain under home quarantine until they are fully recovered," he said, adding that the virus was now actively spreading throughout the country.

Those in the high-risk group should take extra precautions and if they have the symptoms, they must go to the nearest clinic or hospital.

As of 5.30pm on Thursday, 53 new H1N1 cases were reported nationwide, bringing the total to 14,307 cases since May last year. - NST

19 More Persons Confirmed Positive For H1n1

PUTRAJAYA, May 15 (Bernama) -- Nineteen more persons were confirmed positive for Influenza A (H1N1) as of 5.30pm Friday bringing the total of people with the disease in the country to 14,326.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican, said the number of people being treated in hospitals for influenza-like-illness (ILI) was 606.

"Of that total, 80 have been confirmed positive for H1N1. The number of cases in intensive care units is 12 and nine of them have risk factors," he said in a statement here Saturday.

He said as of 8am today eight cases of ILI cluster cases were detected in Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Perak and Selangor.

"The Ministry of Health reminds people that spread of the virus occurs easily in crowded places.

"To prevent this effectively it is important that those with ILI symptoms avoid going to public places," he said.

Nine at Kelantan detention camp in isolation

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine people at an immigration detention camp have been isolated for showing symptoms of influenza A (H1N1).

The detainees at the Tanah Merah Immigration Detention Depot in Kelantan were taken to a government hospital yesterday where throat swabs were taken from them.

They were also given anti-viral drugs for suspected H1N1.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said another 277 people in the detention camp were being monitored for symptoms of the disease.

In another cluster case reported in Chemor, Perak, 98 people living in the Kilang Uniplaster hostel were quarantined when they came down with an influenza-like illness.

Dr Ismail said three kindergarten children at Tabika Kg Bongkek in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, were treated and sent home for suspected H1N1.

Seven pupils of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jln 3, Bandar Baru Bangi in Selangor, were ordered to be quarantined at home after they showed influenza-like illness symptoms.

"School authorities are monitoring 200 other pupils who came in contact with them," Dr Ismail said.

Nineteen cases of H1N1 were reported as of 5.30pm on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 14,326 since May last year.

Eighty people are currently in hospital for the disease.

One ILI cluster case reported in Perak

PUTRAJAYA: One influenza-like-illness (ILI) cluster case was reported in Perak as of 8am today, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said.


He said the ILI cluster case was reported at Tadika Usaha Junior kindergarten in Kuala Kurau.

"There were 26 confirmed Influenza A(H1N1) cases until 5.30pm yesterday, making a total of 14,411 cases. ILI cases being treated in wards totalled 629 nationwide," he said in a statement today.

Dr Ismail said of the total, 67 cases (10.7%) were confirmed positive H1N1 and that eight of 11 treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) had risk factors.

He said the virus could spread fast in crowded places and urged those infected or had ILI to avoid public places.

"Those with ILI must quickly go for treatment at nearby clinics to avoid complication and death."


He advised those with symptoms to wear nose and mouth masks and practice good manners when coughing and personal hygience when in contact with others.

"This is important to prevent th virus from spreading to other healthy individuals."

Dr Ismail said the people could assist by reporting ILI cluster cases to district health offices nearby.
