Managua, July 6 (Prensa Latina) With more than 1,300 cases of dengue in 2013, Nicaragua reported today the death of another person (four now) from the virus, confirmed National Epidemiology Chief, Carlos Saenz.

MANAGUA, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Dengue fever in Nicaragua has killed four people so far this year and infected another 1,543, Health Minister Sonia Castro said Thursday.

The outbreak "is contained" with the largest concentration of infections registered in the capital Managua, Castro said at a press conference.

The other most affected regions included the western provinces of Leon and Chinandega, central province of Chontales and the southern province of Masaya, Castro said.

Relief Little Gloria Rivera Ruiz, 21 months old, is the sixth fatality of dengue in the country. The child was a resident of the community in Villa Cracks July 15, Chinandega, said Rosario Murillo, coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council.

A five year old boy died in Nicaragua because of dengue, which became the ninth fatality that bad so far this year, health authorities said.

The infant, a native of the province of Rivas in southern Nicaragua, died Thursday in hospital "Gaspar Garcia Laviana" in the town, told reporters the director of Epidemiology, Ministry of Health (MoH), Carlos Saenz.

Zambrana, who lived in the northern municipality of Ocotal, reportedly died this morning at the regional hospital in Estel?.

There are currently 5,455 reported cases of dengue in Nicaragua and 30 people in critical condition, according to press reports citing government sources.

A teenage girl northwestern Nicaragua died Thursday due to dengue fever, which has already caused 15 deaths and affected more than 5,600 people so far this year, an official said.

Nicaragua's dengue death toll rises to 16

MANAGUA - A dengue epidemic sweeping Nicaragua has claimed the life of a 13-year-old boy, raising the disease's death toll there to 16 people, according to officials.

The death is the second in less than 24 hours due to dengue, health authorities reported. The disease has infected some 5,795 people in Nicaragua this year.

The boy was from Matagalpa, located 127 kilometers (79 miles) north of Managua, said presidential spokeswoman and first lady Rosario Murillo.

A total of 1,128 people have been hospitalized suspected of having dengue, with 43 of the instances confirmed by laboratories and 36 serious cases, according to official reports...

Nicaragua with fewer cases of dengue in Latin America

The Ministry of Health (MOH) released a report that ranks Nicaragua as the Latin American country with the lowest recorded epidemic of dengue mosquito and attributed the success to the prevention effort made by the Government cases.

The Health Minister, Sonia Castro, explained that the figures in the region report that Mexico reached 190 thousand cases, Costa Rica 40 thousand, 36 thousand Honduras, El Salvador 10,000 cases and Nicaragua a little more than 8,700 cases.

Dengue cases in the country have declined considerably, so authorities reported Thursday the Health Ministry, who highlighted that the campaign against the disease remains.
