40 children killed in measles outbreak in Nigeria's Kaduna State

Baku-APA. At least 40 children were killed in a fresh outbreak of measles across the 23 local government areas in northwest Nigeria's Kaduna State, local media reported on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

This year alone, the Nigerian state recorded at least 1,000 cases of the disease resulting in the high number of deaths, the local Peoples Daily Newspaper said, citing Sufyan Babale, Executive Secretary of the Kaduna Primary Health Care Agency...

Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dangote and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundations for the revitalisation of routine immunisation and other primary healthcare services, an official said.

Dr Shehu Abdullahi, the Executive Secretary, Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, made the plan known in Kano on Monday at the inauguration of the Kano State Implementation Training for 2013 Integrated Measles Campaign.

The secretary said that the state had recorded 200 deaths from 8,000 cases of measles since 2012...

At least 330 lives have been lost to measles in Nigeria since January, the Federal Government said yesterday.

The figure, it noted, was higher than the 104 deaths reported within the same period in the country, last year.

Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr Ado Mohammad, disclosed this in Abuja at a briefing.

He said 53, 842 cases of measles were reported in the last nine months against the 8, 243 cases within the same period last year.

According to him, the Federal Government has concluded plans to immunise 35 million children against the disease in the country, effective from tomorrow...

OWERRI ? A recent outbreak of measles in Imo State has reportedly claimed the lives of six children in Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta, Oru West and Oru East local government areas of the state.

The state Immunisation Officer, Ministry of Health, Mr. Adolphus Okoro, warned parents that the six killer diseases affect children under five years if they are not immunised when due.

He said: ?To this end, the state Ministry of Health has started training chief mobilisation officers of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, and health education officers in the 27 local government areas of the state.?
