A strange disease has ravaged Dungurawa village, in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano state, claiming 8 lives.

Residents told The Nation on Monday that the strange disease started about a week ago in the community and has created panic as it claims lives almost on a daily basis. They said the deceased are five children and three young men ranging from 13 to 25 years old while the children are seven years below.

The disease according to the residents, starts with the symptoms of high fever , headache and stomach pains...

The Kano government said it has dispatched a Rapid Response Team to check the authenticity of a reported outbreak of a strange killer disease in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state

The state Commissioner of Health, Kabiru Getso, made this known through the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Isma?il Gwammaja, on Tuesday in Kano.

He said that the story of the reported outbreak of the strange disease was reported through the media and that prompted the commissioner to direct the rapid response team to swing into action with a view to ascertaining the veracity of the report.

Strange disease kills 10 in Kano village

An outbreak of a strange disease in Dungurawa community, Dawakin Tofa local government area of Kano state has killed at least 10 people mostly children below the age of Nine, Kano Chronicle can report.

Our reporters gathered that the outbreak, which started about two weeks ago, has also left six others in a critical condition at Bichi General Hospital, in Bichi local government area.

Malam Suleiman Musa Tafida lost three children at the wake of the disease?s outbreak, he said the common symptoms of the disease include running temperature, fever, vomiting and diarrhea.

A source close to the medical team deployed to the affected community said a bigger team of experts from the state ministry of health was expected to visit the village for further investigation on the ailment.

He added that the medical team drafted to the community had not been able to establish the real cause of deaths in the village, saying most of the villagers were tested negative of malaria which was the initial suspected cause of the casualties.

The Kano State Government says the outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis was responsible for the death of eight persons in Dungurawa village of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The state commissioner for health, Kabiru Getso, made the disclosure at a news conference in Kano on Wednesday.

He said that the ministry received the information about the outbreak of a strange disease and dispatched its Rapid Response Team to the area.

?The team reported that the first case was reported on March 15 in the area and the victims died instantly before reaching a health facility,? he said.

He said some other cases were recorded in the area but were not reported early to the hospitals.
