NPR.org, March 2, 2009 · President Obama moved closer Monday to his goal of revamping the nation's health care system, filling two key positions and releasing $155 million from the economic stimulus package to expand health clinics across the country.
Obama nominated Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and health care expert Nancy-Ann DeParle to serve as his counselor and director of the new White House Office for Health Reform.

DeParle, 52, was commissioner of the Department of Human Services in Tennessee from 1987 to 1989 and managed Medicare and Medicaid in the Clinton administration. She will work with Sebelius to implement Obama's ambitious health care reform agenda.
In addition to filling the two positions, Obama released $155 million authorized under the stimulus package to support 126 new health centers. The White House says the centers will help 750,000 low-income Americans — with and without insurance — to get primary and preventive health care.
