Yesteday, May 29 2013, the renowned Italian actress, playwriter and female rights activist died in Milan after a long-term condition.
She has been survived by her husband, the Nobel Prize winner actor and playwriter Dario Fo, and her son, Jacopo.
She spent her entire life on the stage, beginning early in 1950 with small part and then making a lifelong partnership with her husband.
Her plays were fully engaged in historical and contemporary cultural and social position of the women, the defence of civil rights and promotion of equality and justice in an old fashioned Italian scenario dominated by the Catholic Church and ancient prejudices against females.
For her unabated fight for the civil rights she paid a great price when she was kidnapped and raped by far right criminals.
With her husband made a monumental work in collecting and translating ancient Italian vulgar commedia (la comedia de l'arte) into current Language, paving the way for the subsequent Nobel award.
