Health Officials Investigate 9 Cases of Mumps at OSU

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY (Rob Wells) -- Nine cases of mumps in Ohio State students has left unversity administrators and Columbus Public Health officials trying to figure out where it all started.

Officials from Columbus Public Health say of those cases, the first was discovered on February 12. The last one discovered was today. They involve students that range in age from 19 to 22 years old...

THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY (Jen French) -- The Columbus Public Health department suspects more cases of the mumps at The Ohio State University, saying at least 13 students have symptoms of the virus. Doctors are still calling the school to report more possible cases...

...In addition to the suspected cases of mumps, the Columbus Public Health Department said at least three doctors outside of the university have notified them of sick students...

COLUMBUS ? Public health officials say 16 mumps cases have been confirmed in an outbreak at Ohio State University.

Columbus Public Health spokesman Jose Rodriguez says officials expect to see more cases because those who contract the virus can be contagious for weeks and about one-third of them generally don?t show symptoms...

Eighteen cases of mumps have been reported at Ohio State since the first case was reported last week.

OSU spokeswoman Liz Cook said in an email Tuesday two new cases of mumps were identified by Columbus Public Health, bringing the total number of cases reported to 18.

Jose Rodriguez, spokesman for Columbus Public Health, said Tuesday two of the 18 infected are not students, but they are linked to student cases...

OSU mumps outbreak numbers increase to 28 cases

City health officials say the number of mumps cases associated with the outbreak among Ohio State University students has increased to 28.

Of those, 23 are students, one is a staff member, one is related to an OSU student and three are outside of the university, but have strong ties to the school.

Mumps outbreak at Ohio State climbs to 40 cases

Ohio State University's mumps outbreak is growing, with 40 people now infected, according to new numbers released by Columbus Public Health Friday.

That's up from 28 cases tied to the Columbus, Ohio university reported Tuesday.

Eighteen women and 22 men ranging in age from 18 to 48 are among those sickened. The vast majority of cases - 32 -- are students, but also infected are four staff members, a student's relative, and three people who don't work or study at the campus but have links to the university community.

Three of the patients were hospitalized for at least one day then released...

The mumps outbreak in Franklin County has jumped from 16 cases to 69 confirmed cases.

Of the confirmed cases, 52 are linked to Ohio State University students between ages 18-48. The remaining cases are confined to residents in Frankin county between the ages of 4 to 50...

DELAWARE, Ohio - Health officials in Delaware are investigating six suspected cases of the mumps as part of the larger mumps outbreak including 87 cases in Central Ohio.

According to the Delaware General Health District, officials are urging residents to take precautions after the outbreak linked to The Ohio State University was expanded to a community-wide outbreak this week.

As of March 27, 87 mumps cases have been reported in Franklin County. To date, 70 cases have been linked to The Ohio State University...

Fairfield County reports first mumps case related to Ohio State outbreak

LANCASTER ? Fairfield County has one case of mumps that has been connected with the outbreak originating at Ohio State University.

Public health agencies for Columbus and surrounding Franklin County reported 82 total cases of the contagious viral illness as of Wednesday.

Sixty-nine of those are linked to Ohio State. Fifty-three involve Ohio State students, said Jose Rodriguez, spokesman for the Columbus Board of Health.

?One is reported from Fairfield County and one from Licking County,? Rodriguez said...

Hamilton County Health Department confirms local mumps outbreak

CINCINNATI -- Doctors want Hamilton County residents to get vaccinated to protect them from the mumps, after one case was confirmed Thursday.

The Hamilton County Health Department said no other mumps cases have shown up in the county, but that Thursday's case is linked to the outbreaks at Ohio State University (OSU)...
