According to Columbus Public Health, as of April 15, there were 230 cases reported in both counties.

Olentangy schools keep out 5 students who lack mumps vaccination

Five Olentangy Local Schools students will stay home for at least 25 days or until they get a mumps vaccine in the wake of news of two connected cases in one school.

And if more cases emerge, those students might not return before the school year wraps up on May 23.

Because of the cluster of two cases and the 25-day incubation period for mumps, students without vaccines and those with compromised immune systems have been told to stay home...

...The central Ohio mumps outbreak grew to 244 cases in 10 counties yesterday. Of those, 151 cases have been linked to Ohio State University, where the outbreak began.

The central Ohio outbreak is so big that the region has more than half as many mumps cases as the nation did in all of 2013, when the CDC reported that 438 people in 39 states had mumps.

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? Public health officials say a mumps outbreak in central Ohio has topped 250 cases. That's more than half of the nation's 438 reported cases last year.

The total as of Monday was 253 cases of the contagious viral illness, with 153 of those linked to Ohio State University. That includes 109 students and 17 staff members...

Officials with Olentangy Local Schools said suspected cases of mumps have been identified at Liberty Tree and Scioto Ridge elementary schools, Liberty and Shanahan middle schools, and Olentangy and Olentangy Liberty high schools.

The cases include residents in Athens, Belmont, Clark, Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Hamilton, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, and Ross counties.

A mumps case at Miami University has been confirmed by the Miami University Student Health Services.

The confirmation, in an email from health services sent to the campus community Friday evening, identifies the patient only as a female student on the Oxford campus. No other details have been released.

On April 22, Clark County health officials reported two possible cases of mumps -- one suspected and one probable case..
