Considering the OIE/FAO guidelines and recommendations and EU avian influenza Council Directive (2005/94/EC) to prevent the spread of HPAI virus, the following measures were applied:
- destruction of all susceptible birds in the affected village,
- cleansing and disinfection of the infected premises,
- establishment of protection and surveillance zones around the outbreak area,
- restrictions on movements of poultry and on the use of products liable to be contaminated by tightening biosecurity measures at all levels of poultry production,
- post-outbreak active surveillance and monitoring: all villages in the surveillance zones were visited to ensure the detection of any other infected villages, but no positive clinical scenario was found up to date,
- collection of totally 512 swab samples and 1,660 serum samples from 60 villages in continuation of the post-outbreak active surveillance in the surveillance zones around the outbreak area. All the results were negative.

A stamping-out policy, including disinfection of all affected establishments, has been applied for 3 months as well as surveillance in accordance with Appendix 3.8.9 of the OIE Terrestrial Animal Health Code has been carried out during that three-month period.

According to Article 2.7.12.4 of the Terrestrial Code, Iran declares regaining its free status in relation to HPAI.

WHO envoy: No problem with avian flu in Iran

The World Health Organization (WHO) envoy Ambrogio Mananeti said here Wednesday that presently there is no problem in Iran in connection with bird flu.

"Iran has no problem with avian flue now. Presently, we have good cooperation with (Iranian) ministries of agricultural jihad and health in terms of bird flu control," Manenti told reporters on the sidelines of annual meeting of the representatives of UN agencies in Iran.

Manenti said that WHO and Iran had in the past set up workshops in connection with avian flu. --IRNA
