Peel Public Health is currently working in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to identify passengers who may require direct follow up.

Latest measles cases ?localized?: official
Markham Economist & Sun
By Simone Joseph

Four cases of measles were discovered in a Markham home last week.

But since the cases were due to travel rather than exposure within the community, the discovery is not cause for alarm, according to Lilian Yuan, associate medical officer of health for the York Region Public Health department.

?Measles wasn?t spreading in the community. It was very localized,? she said Wednesday.

Two of the infected people are adults and two are school-aged children.

The four were infected when they came into contact with a visitor from China...

Another potential measles case in Burlington
By Carmela Fragomeni

...Dr. Monir Taha, Halton Region's Associate Medical Officer of Health said the potential new case is in a child exposed to the measles during a visit to the emergency department of Joseph Brant Hospital three weeks ago.

The child was exposed to the first measles case in Halton in a person initially exposed by a Hamilton resident visiting various locales in Burlington during the time period in which they were contagious.

As for exposure to the child's own measles, Taha says there was only a short window for others to be exposed. It would only potentially have happened at the North Burlington Medical Centre on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. over the Easter weekend...

For Immediate Release:

Possible Measles Exposure at Multiple Locations in Mississauga Between May 23-28, 2014

Brampton, ON. (May 30, 2014) - Peel Public Health is investigating a confirmed case of measles in an adult from Mississauga. Members of the public may have been exposed to measles in a number of settings in Mississauga during the period of May 23 - 28, 2014. This case is linked to the confirmed measles exposure site at Milton District Hospital and is related to previous travel to the Philippines.

Anyone who was in the following places DURING THE TIMES LISTED may have been exposed to measles. The virus can only live outside the body (e.g., on surfaces and door handles) for up to two hours, so people who visited these locations at other times were not exposed.

May 23, Toronto Pearson International Airport, Air Canada Flight 1895 from Tampa Bay, arrival time into Terminal One at 10:36 p.m. AND the train from Terminal One to the Viscount Parking Garage
May 24, Erin Mills Fitness, 6460 Millcreek Dr., Mississauga, 6:45 - 11:15 a.m.
May 26, MCI Medical Clinic: The Doctor's Office, 6435 Erin Mills Pkwy, Mississauga, 9 a.m. -Noon
May 28, MCI Medical Clinic: The Doctor's Office, 6435 Erin Mills Pkwy, Mississauga, 9 a.m. -1:30 p.m.

Visitors to the identified locations during the times noted should do the following:

Check your immunization records to make sure you and your children have had two doses of the measles vaccine (MMR or MMRV). Your child's immunization record (yellow card) or your doctor can provide you with this information. Two doses of measles vaccine are recommended for anyone born after 1969.
Watch for symptoms of measles until 21 days after possible exposure. These include a high fever; cold-like symptoms (cough/runny nose); sore eyes or sensitivity to light; small spots with a white centre on the inside of the mouth; and a red rash lasting four to seven days.

Anyone who shows symptoms should call their health care provider immediately and tell them they have been exposed to measles and feel unwell. DO NOT go to any medical facility without telling them before the appointment that you have been in contact with someone who has measles. ...
