Meningitis case poses no threat to Timmins

A patient at the Timmins and District Hospital was being treated for meningitis this week, an illness that can quickly become fatal. Meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the lining around the brain and spinal cord. The patient was brought into the hospital on the weekend according to solid sources. The status of that patient was not revealed to The Daily Press.

The Meningitis Research Foundation of Canada describes the illness as ?a medical emergency? that can have serious consequences.

By law, the Porcupine Health Unit is to be notified whenever patients suspected of having meningitis are encountered...
