Begley students screened for measles
By Sonja Puzic, The Windsor Star May 18, 2010 8:02 PM
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is screening students at Frank Begley public school after a ?probable? case of measles was reported last week.
Director of health protection Deb Bennett said an eight-year-old girl was showing signs of the highly contagious disease but her blood work came back inconclusive. Erring on the side of caution, the health unit notified Begley parents whose children may be at risk and is working with school authorities to obtain all students? vaccination records.
The affected girl had received only one dose of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine instead of the recommended two, Bennett said. She recovered and returned to school after the measles incubation period was over.
