MRSA outbreak at Welland hospital

Since Sept. 4 five Welland Hospital patients have contracted Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus or MRSA.

The five cases have been limited to the fourth floor surgical unit and on Thursday the Niagara Health System declared a MRSA outbreak in response to the higher-than-normal number of cases. Currently only two cases of the bacterial infection, that can be spread through contact from person to person, remain in the unit...
