Teams at Quinte Health Care are trying to stop a bacterial outbreak in Belleville General Hospital's maternity ward.
The corporation on Monday declared the outbreak of Group A streptococcus, also known as strep A. It's a bacterium known to cause strep throat and impetigo but which can cause far more serious infections.
?It is completely safe to have your baby at Belleville General,? said chief of staff Dr. Dick Zoutman.
Fewer than five patients on the Quinte 7 floor have been ill, he said. None have been babies...
