The number of people in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19 continues to rise, with 438 patients now in intensive care.
According to the Ministry of Health, at least 26 more people are in the ICU due to the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Of those patients, 234 are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.
There are also at least 2,467 COVID-19 patients in hospital, a slight rise from Sunday.
Not all hospitals report COVID-19 data on weekends, officials say, and updated vaccination data is not available.
Ontario is also reporting fewer than 10,000 new COVID-19 cases for the first time in 2022.
On Monday, health officials logged 9,706 new cases of COVID-19; however it is important to note this statistic only represents lab-confirmed cases and the majority of Ontario's population cannot be tested due to provincial restrictions.
Forty-five additional cases were logged in health-care workers and 156 were found in residents of long-term care homes.
Data shows that of those infections, 1,917 were found in people who were not fully vaccinated or had an unknown vaccination status...

According to the Ministry of Health, at least 26 more people are in the ICU due to the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Of those patients, 234 are breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.

New data indicates that 46 per cent of people currently in Ontario hospitals with COVID-19 were admitted for reasons other than the virus.
The Ontario government released the data after indicating for some time that it would begin differentiating between those who were admitted for COVID-19-related illness and incidental admissions...

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 is up by 753 compared to Monday’s report, though the figure reported Monday was likely an undercount since not all hospitals report data on weekends.
Of those hospitalized, the province said 477 are in ICUs, which is up by 39. Around 83 per cent of those in intensive care were admitted because of COVID, while around 17 per cent were admitted for other reasons.

Ontario is reporting 3,448 people are in hospital with COVID on Wednesday, though just over half of them were initially admitted due to complications with the virus.
The Ontario government recently released data differentiating between those who were admitted to hospital due to a COVID-related illness and incidental admissions.
Of the 3,448 people in hospital with COVID-19, which is up by 228 since yesterday — around 54 per cent of them were admitted because of the virus, while about 46 per cent were admitted for other reasons but tested positive for COVID-19.
The province also reported of the hospitalizations there are 505 people in ICUs, which is up 28 from the previous day. Around 83 per cent of those in intensive care were admitted because of COVID, while around 17 per cent were admitted for other reasons.
For vaccination status among hospitalizations, 674 were unvaccinated, 163 were partially vaccinated and 1,813 were fully vaccinated. For patients in ICUs, 157 were unvaccinated while 19 were partially vaccinated and 167 were fully vaccinated. This dataset will grow and improve over time, officials noted...
...Meanwhile, Ontario also reported 9,783 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, though that is an underestimate of the true widespread transmission of the virus due to recent testing restrictions. The provincial case total now stands at 906,031.
Of the 9,783 new cases recorded, the data showed 1,347 were unvaccinated people, 327 were partially vaccinated people, 7,673 were fully vaccinated people. For 435 people the vaccination status was unknown.
The death toll in the province has risen to 10,445 as 46 more virus-related deaths were added from over the past month....

Thurday's figure is a jump of over a thousand from the same day last week when there were 2,279 people hospitalized with the virus.
Of those hospitalized with COVID-19, 54 per cent were admitted to hospital seeking treatment for COVID-19, while 46 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for the virus, according to data by the Ministry of Health. That data does not list a breakdown for previous waves of the virus for comparison.
As of Thursday, there are 500 people with COVID-19 in ICUs. That's a slight decrease from 505 patients the day before and an increase from 319 one week ago.
Approximately 82 per cent were admitted to the ICU seeking treatment for COVID-19 and 18 per cent were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for the illness, according to the dataset.
The seven-day rolling average of ICU admissions linked to COVID-19 now sits at 436.

Ontario has set another record for the highest number of people in hospital with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Health officials reported on Saturday that 3,957 people are testing positive for COVID-19 in hospital, which is an increase of 143 in the past 24 hours. That number is up from 2,594 hospitalizations one week ago.
The province says there are 558 people being treated in intensive care, up from 527 on Friday.
The province said 53 per cent of the hospitalizations are people who are in hospital primarily due to COVID-19, while the remaining 47 per cent were admitted for other reasons but are now testing positive for the virus.
Ontario also added 10,732 new COVID-19 infections today, but that number is an underestimate of the true case count due to restrictions on testing.
In the past 24-hour period, the test positivity rate in the province was 24.8 per cent.

Ontario reported 3,887 hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 on Monday, with 578 of those patients in ICU.
It is important to note that not all hospitals in the province report hospitalization figures on weekends, so the real number could be higher.
The province also reported 8,521 new cases of COVID-19 — however, that number is not a reliable indicator of the true spread of the virus given restricted testing access. Officials also reported 22 more deaths.

Ontario reported 3,887 hospitalizations of people with COVID-19 on Monday, with 578 of those patients in ICU.
It is important to note that not all hospitals in the province report hospitalization figures on weekends, so the real number could be higher.
The province also reported 8,521 new cases of COVID-19 — however, that number is not a reliable indicator of the true spread of the virus given restricted testing access. Officials also reported 22 more deaths.

The number of patients in an Ontario hospital with COVID-19 rose to 4,183 on Tuesday as ICU admissions related to the virus reached 580.
That’s an increase of 296 hospitalizations over Monday's report and an increase of two patients in intensive care.
Of the patients in hospital, 53.5 per cent were admitted due to a COVID-19-related illness and 46.5 per cent tested positive after they were admitted for another reason.
In the ICU, 82.1 per cent of the patients were admitted for COVID-19 while 17.9 per cent tested positive after the fact.
The vaccination status of those in hospital include 2,050 fully vaccinated patients, 739 unvaccinated patients, and 195 partially vaccinated patients. The vaccination status of the remaining 1,199 patients is unknown, according to the government.
In the ICU, 196 patients are fully vaccinated, 195 patients are unvaccinated, and 17 patients are partially vaccinated. No vaccination information was provided for the remaining 172 patients.
At least 7,086 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across the province in the last 24 hours. However, health officials have warned that case counts are likely an underestimate of the true number of infections in Ontario due to limited testing for the virus.
More than 5,400 of those cases were identified in individuals who are fully vaccinated, 1,087 were found in unvaccinated individuals, and 245 were found in partially vaccinated individuals. The vaccination status of the remaining 314 cases is unknown...

Ontario reported 60 new deaths due to COVID-19 on Wednesday – the highest daily death toll reported in nearly a year – as overall hospital admissions fell and ICU occupancy increased only slightly.
The last time daily deaths reached this level was on Feb. 4, 2021 when 88 deaths were reported.
There have now been 10,726 deaths in the province since March 2020. Two-hundred and eighty-one Ontario residents have died of COVID-19 in the past seven days.
All but one of the deaths reported on Wednesday occurred in the past 30 days. Seven involved residents of long-term care.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore said his office is “checking whether deaths are causative or associated with COVID-19,” through the death certification process.
He said that he believes many of the deaths are related to infections caused by the Delta variant prior to the rise of Omicron in late December, but there is little actual data to show this.
The Ministry of Health said 4,132 people were in hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 51 from the record-level of occupancy the day before, and 589 people were in intensive care, an increase of nine in 24 hours.
Of those in ICU, 341 were breathing with a ventilator, an increase of four from the previous day...
