Whooping cough case found at Pennbrook

The North Penn School District has confirmed a case of pertussis ? whooping cough ? in a student at Pennbrook Middle School in Upper Gwynedd.

The case was reported to the Montgomery County Health Department on Thursday and was found in a Pennbrook eighth-grader, according to a letter to students from school Principal James Galante posted Monday afternoon.

In the letter, Galante tells parents that the county health department urges all students be observed over the next two weeks for possible symptoms, including a running nose or sudden uncontrollable bursts of coughing.

Stroudsburg Middle School student catches whooping cough

A Stroudsburg Middle School student has been diagnosed with pertussis, or whooping cough, a highly contagious bacterial disease known for producing violent coughing fits sometimes accompanied by a deep "whooping" sound.

Superintendent John Toleno found out about the case Thursday, after the school district was notified by the state Department of Health.

HAMBURG, Pa. -- It's more than just a sick day for some students in one local school district.

According to officials in the Hamburg School District, they have an outbreak of pertussis, better known as whooping cough, on their hands.

A letter to parents from Hamburg superintendent Stephen Keifer warns parents there have been "several confirmed cases of pertussis in the school district..."

The state has confirmed at least five whooping cough cases in the Hamburg area and is investigating about 50 more potential cases in northern Berks County.

In response, the state Department of Health will hold a public vaccination clinic from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamburg Middle School. Anyone over age 10 is eligible for a free vaccination...

An eighth-grader at Bala Cynwyd Middle School has contracted pertussis, or whooping cough, parents and families learned Tuesday in a letter from the Montgomery County Health Department.

The student "is doing fine," did not require hospitalization and is expected to be back in school "soon," Lower Merion School District spokesman Doug Young told Patch Tuesday afternoon...

Whooping Cough Case Reported at Woodland Hills High School
Parents have been informed and the case was treated.

Assistant Superintendent Alan Johnson has issued a letter to parents and guardians about a case of pertussis disease, otherwise known as whooping cough, and an incident of exposure at Woodland Hills High School.

The letter assures that the single case was treated, and there is no real threat, according to a Woodland Hills Update report. It also contains information about the disease symptoms, spread, treatment, and prevention.

?The Allegheny County Health Department was informed and the case was treated appropriately,? Johnson wrote in the letter...

Two Orefield Students Have Whooping Cough

Parents have been notified that children at Orefield Middle School could have been exposed to Pertusis, whooping cough.

Parkland School District alerted parents today that two Orefield Middle School students were diagnosed with whopping cough.

Pertusis, or whooping cough, is a highly contagious disease spread through the air. When students are diagnosed with pertusis, their doctors must alert the schools, which in turn alerts parents, said Nicole McGalla, Director, Community Relations and Development for Parkland.
