KARACHI, Nov 21: Dengue claimed the life of a teenage boy ? fifth victim in the current month ? in the city, said Sindh dengue surveillance cell officials on Thursday.

They added that the 16-year-old resident of Orangi died at a private hospital on Wednesday, five days after he had been admitted there in a precarious condition, and the death was reported to the cell on Thursday.

This year?s death toll from the virus in the province has climbed to 28 so far.

Mullick said a 63-year-old man resident of Hyderabad city expired in on 21st of November and case was reported to Dengue Surveillance Cell on Friday.

He said elderly man was admitted in hospital on 8th of November.

One dengue fever patient dies in Thatta



KARACHI: Fatal dengue viral fever claimed yet another life in Sindh province on Monday increasing the death toll to 30 in 2013, said Dr M Shakeel Aamir Mullick Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh.

Dr Mullick said 77 years old man, resident of Thatta expired on 23rd of November and the case was reported to Dengue Surveillance Cell on Monday. He said elderly man was admitted in hospital on 12th of November.

He said a total of 25 dengue fever patients have died in Karachi in 2013 while three in Hyderabad and one each in Mirpurkhas and Thatta so far.

Another life has been lost to the dreaded dengue fever, pushing the death toll in the province this year to 31, the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell said on Friday.

The latest casualty was a 95-year-old male who lived in Larkana. He was admitted to a hospital on November 24 and expired on Friday.

So far, 25 people have died of the disease in Karachi, three in Hyderabad, and one each in Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Larkana...

...The number of confirmed patients of the infection reaching allied hospitals in town daily has reduced to less than five that was 30 to 40 two weeks back. The allied hospitals in town have not been receiving any significant influx of dengue fever suspects for the last one week while within the last 48 hours the three hospitals admitted less than 10 patients after suspected them for dengue fever. The dengue fever counters set up for screening dengue fever suspects at the allied hospitals, however, are operating at present.

The dengue fever outbreak occurred in town was severe in nature this year as the allied hospitals received over 2,250 suspects of the infection of which over 50 per cent were tested positive.

To date, the allied hospitals have tested as many as 1,153 dengue fever patients positive in all while five patients belonging to Rawalpindi died of the infection here at the allied hospitals excluding those who had co-morbidities...

LAHORE - The menace of dengue fever continued to haunt people with increasing intensity as 13 more were tested positive for the deadly virus on Sunday, taking the number of confirmed cases in the province to 2398. Out of 25 new cases, seven were reported from Lahore, four from Rawalpindi and one each from Narowal and Kasur.

Meanwhile, advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Raffiq has said that surveillance activities would continue until no new cases would be reported for seven consecutive days...

Twenty-eight more people have tested positive for dengue in the city in two days, increasing the number of dengue patients to 4,913 this year, stated a report released by the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell on Thursday.
