They said that Congo virus outbreak was reported in Ganj Mohalla and Kharotabad in the outskirts of Zhob where so far five persons have died of the disease during the treatment...

Health officials are on high alert as the city?s first Congo patient this year died at a private hospital in Azizabad on Thursday. Doctors and family members of the deceased are afraid that the virus could infect others.

According to sources, 24-year-old Muhammad Kashif, a butcher and resident of Azizabad passed away at the hospital on Thursday. He was laid to rest on Friday morning. Health officials claim that all precautionary measures were taken during the burial process and steps have been taken to ensure that those who came in close contact with the deceased have not been infected...

Congo virus ? a fresh challenge for Balochistan

The confirmation of four Congo virus in the Zhob district of Balochistan has set off alarm bells in a province where the state of healthcare is already precarious. Two patients have died and one has been discharged following treatment. A female patient is currently undergoing treatment in Quetta. The patients were all residents of Killi Blump, a small village of about 12 households near Meena Bazaar, about 40 kilometres from Zhob city. The virus causes Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) ? a widespread tick-borne viral disease that affects both wild and domestic animals and can be passed on to humans.

Contrary to what several local reports suggest, this is not the first time the virus has claimed victims in Balochistan...

27‐Jul CCHF Punjab Rawalpindi
Village Mori Sher,Kahuta, Rawalpindi

Suspected case 17 years old boy reported from HF Hospital Rawalpindi
emergency on 27th July, admitted in medical isolation ward.
Patient get fever and vomiting on one week back, treated locally but
did not improved. Referred by THQ Kahuta to HFH when developed
haematemisis on 25th July. Blood sample sent to NIH. Patient platelets
count was 19000.Patient has cows and goats in his house, no
travel history. DDHO with livestock department has visited patients
house and aware the community about the CCHF preventions. SO
DEWS visited the patient and discussed with the hospital staff about
management and prevention. Patient is recovering.

31‐Jul CCHF Balochistan Loralai DHQ Hospital, Loralai

2 suspected cases reported from DHQ hospital. Investigation was
completed. The index case was a pregnant woman brought with
complication to the labor ward of civil hospital where she was attended
by a LMO and staff nurse. However case was referred but
could not survive and expired. The contact of the case "staff nurse"
also found with typical symptoms of high grade fever, severe headache
and body ache. This case was diagnosed as suspected CCHF and
brought to Multan where she was discharged. After few days, this
case was brought to service hospital Lahore with unconscious status.
Sample was taken and sent to NIH, treatment started and now she is
improving.

31‐Jul CCHF Balochistan Loralai Village Sinjavi, Ziarat district

One case was reported from Loralai. Investigation was done. Case
was belonging to Ziarat district. History shows that case was animal
trader and had acute contact with animals. Case was referred to
Loralai where he was further referred to Nishter Multan. This case
was under treatment.

2‐Aug CCHF Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peshawar Domel, Bannu

A 40 years old man, Butcher by profession, resident of Domel, Bannu
got sick on 26th July when he was in Bannu and had fever, malaise
and headache. He was brought to KTH Peshawar on 1st August 2014.
He developed Petechial Hemorrhages and massive haematemisis
later on. His platelet count declined to 36000/cmm. Blood sample
was taken and sent to NIH which came out positive for CCHF. He was
receiving supportive treatment but his condition did not improve and
he expired on 4th August 2014. SO WHO for Bannu Division and DHO
Bannu was informed about the case.

5‐Aug CCHF Punjab Multan Sanjavi, Ziarat, Baluchistan

A 35 year old male patient referred by DHQ Loralai to Nishter Hospital Multan was
reported. The patient was originally admitted in Nishter Hospital with suspected
Leptospirosis/CCHF. The onset of fever was 15 days back. The patient had four
residential addresses in Ziarat, Loralai, Chowk Munda and Muzaffargarh. The patient
was presently living in Sanjavi, Ziarat for the last 2 months. His occupation
there was trading cattle. His blood samples were collected and sent to NIH for
confirmation which was found positive for CCHF. Health education and counseling
session was conducted with patient and his attendants. His brother, who also
attended to him during his stay in DHQ Hospital Loralai also developed fever was
quarantined in isolation ward Nishter Hospital and is being kept under observation.
WHO provided antiviral for the treatment of suspected case. Hospital staff
who attended to the case was also counseled for signs of CCHF and was advised to
inform immediately if they develop any symptoms. PPEs, hand sanitizers and
surface disinfectants were already provided to hospital by WHO.

5‐Aug CCHF Punjab Rawalpindi Mankiyala , Gujar Khan , Rawalpindi

75 years old male patient from Gujar Khan was in his usual state of health when 15
days back complaints of Fever, vomiting and generalized body aches started. He
was taken to a Local private hospital where he was given antibiotics and IV infusion
. But his condition did not improved and later was referred to MH Rwp. ICU
Medicine Department. Where he was treated for suspected CCHF and his condition
improved. Samples send to NIH came out positive for CCHF. Field visit was
arranged in coordination with Live stock department and DDHO Gujar Khan. Cattle
found in house having tick and were disinfected. Health education session was
conducted with the family members.

FJCH (Gawal Ismaiel zai, NearLevis Thana, Killa Saifullah)

Alert for 3 suspected CCHF cases and one suspected CCHF death was
reported from FJCH. All cases belongs to district Killa Saifullah. 2 blood
samples have been collected and sent to NIH result is awaited. The patients
are presently under treatment. Information shared with DoH Killa
Saifullah and requested for relevant field investigation and appropriate
response. Health education session was conducted with the family
members of the patients.

20‐Aug CCHF Balochistan Quetta
FJCH (GawalIsmaiel zai, Near Levis Thana, Killa Saifullah)
Alert for 3 suspected CCHF cases were reported from FJCH in continuation
to the outbreak held at district Killa Saifullah. All the cases were
found with high grade fever, body ache, headache and weakness. By
occupation all the cases are farmer and having animal contact. 2 blood
samples have been collected and sent to NIH. Presently all the cases are
admitted and under treatment. Health education session was conducted
with the family members of the patients. DoH is informed and requested
to take precautionary measures.

19‐Aug CCHF ICT ICT PIMS
One Laboratory confirmed case of CCHF was reported from NIH with
history of Fever and epitasis. Patient is a butcher by profession and belongs
to Afghanistan. Blood transfusion, platelets and anti‐viral were
administered. Blood sample was found positive for CCHF. Health education
session was conducted with the family members of the patient.

KARACHI: A teenage boy suffering from Congo-Crimean Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has been under treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JMPC) for the past five days, sources told Dawn on Monday.

The 17-year-old boy, a college student living in Shah Faisal Colony, used to play in a cattle pen, they said.

It?s the second reported case of CCHF in the province this year...

Town, Karachi

DEWS team was informed about a death due to CCHF reported from
AKUH. The patient was 26 years old resident of Gulberg town Karachi.
He developed high grade fever and his condition kept on deteriorating.
Third day he was taken to AKUH where he was admitted at ER and the
same day his Lab result (PCR) came positive for CCHF. Patient could not
survived and expired. Patient was a butcher by profession and was in
direct contact with raw meat which he used to buy from the main
slaughter house. Health education regarding CCHF prevention was delivered
to the family members. All the family members have been instructed
to note down their temperatures twice daily for two weeks.
Information shared with DoH and follow up planned.

DEWS team and EDO health Karachi got information from AKUH that a sample for
CCHF has come positive. With the help of EDOH office the patient was located
and visit was made to JPMC. Patient aged 16 years male developed fever and his
condition kept on worsening. Patient's PCR for CCHF came positive and antiviral
therapy was started. The patient was improving. A health awareness session was
conducted comprising of lady health workers and the people in the community.
Moreover an official from the livestock department visited the cattle farm in the
area (from where the patient might have caught the disease), assessed the situation
and ensured that the Livestock department will follow proper steps to disinfect
the cattle and farm. On household visit the DEWS SO elaborated in detail the
ways of contacting the disease and its prevention. It was advised that all the
family members need to monitor their temperature twice daily for two weeks.

Two die after contracting Congo virus in Quetta

QUETTA: Two people, including a staffer of Roznama Express Newspaper, have died due to Congo virus in Quetta on Wednesday, doctors confirmed to The Express Tribune.
The death toll from the virus in the city has now risen to four over the last three months.
Rana Tahir Mehmood was admitted to a hospital in Quetta after complaining of ill health.
?He was treated for three days at Mission Hospital Quetta where doctors were unable to diagnose him with Congo virus,? a family member of Mehmood said.
Due to deteriorating health the patient was later shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where he was diagnosed with the virus.

Deadly disease: Congo fever claims another life

PESHAWAR:
Sharifullah Khan, 30, was among the five people brought to Hayatabad Medical Complex in the last two weeks after exhibiting signs of the deadly Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever. He died on Friday, a day after arriving at the hospital from Kabul, Afghanistan.
The test report of Shafiullah?s blood sample has not yet been received from the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, but doctors at the hospital said he showed symptoms of the virus.
?Five patients were brought to the hospital within a period of two weeks after Eidul Azha,? HMC?s spokesperson Dr Wali Rehman told The Express Tribune. ?Two patients are from Bannu while the others belonged to different parts of Afghanistan.?

province 46 suspected (13 cases belongs to Afghanistan), 10 Laboratory confirmed and 9 deaths. 30 suspected, 17 Laboratory confirmed (12
from Afghanistan) and 10 deaths (7 Lab confirmed) were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 4 suspected cases (2 from Afghanistan), 3
Laboratory confirmed and 2 deaths were reported from Islamabad. 15 suspected CCHF cases (7 Laboratory confirmed), 6 deaths were reported from
Punjab province. 2 laboratory confirmed cases (1 death) were reported from Sindh province; While 1 suspected case was from district Sudhnuti (AJK)
and found negative for CCHF.
The CCHF cases from Afghanistan are detected and reported from Quetta and Peshawar. The patients are referred for treatment (mostly
self referrals) to the Tertiary Care hospitals in both these cities. The list of CCHF cases with addresses shared with concerned person at the Ministry
of Public Health Afghanistan for preventive measures at community level.

CCHF
Crimean Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) cases are reported continuously from epidemiological week 8, 2014. So far total 129 suspected
cases, 52 laboratory confirmed, and 35 deaths (of these 16 laboratory confirmed) have been reported.
Most of the cases are from Balochistan
province 66 suspected (14 cases belongs to Afghanistan), 20 Laboratory confirmed and 15 deaths. 39 suspected, 19 Laboratory confirmed (14
from Afghanistan) and 12 deaths (7 Lab confirmed) were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. 4 suspected cases (2 from Afghanistan), 3

An alert for CCHF reported from Bannu district. The patient is 35
years old male and involved in animal slaughtering on occasion of EID
UL AZHA. He became sick, having Fever followed by generalized
weakness and lethargy. One blood sample was taken and sent to
Agha Khan Laboratory which came out positive for CCHF. Family
members have been sensitized about the nature of the disease. Information
shared with DoH.

Patient having high grade fever, headache and body ache along
with epistaxis. Case was referred to CCHF isolation ward. One blood

CCHF. Awareness session was taken with the family regarding CCHF
disease. Information was shared with the relevant Health authorities.

A man suffering from Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever died at a private hospital on Friday.

Fifty-year-old Sakhi Mohammad, who was brought to the city from Chachro town in Tharparkar district, was admitted to the hospital a day earlier.

First victim from Tharparkar succumbs to deadly Congo virus

KARACHI: A 50-year-old man hailing from Sindh, and the first from the drought-affected district of Tharparkar, died at the Aga Khan hospital in Karachi after suffering from the Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever – creating panic among the entire population of the drought-affected region.
According to details, 50-year-old Mohammad Sakhi Nohri of Taluka Chhachharo was taken Hyderabad on Wednesday, and was then transferred to Karachi in serious condition.
Nohri died on Friday afternoon while receiving treatment. Provincial authorities had taken notice of the first case of the Congo fever from Tharparkar, but not a single official visited him till his death.
