Two more children fall victim to polio in NWA

PESHAWAR: Two more cases of polio were confirmed from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas on Wednesday pushing the country?s total to 17 this year.

The National Institute of Health confirmed the presence of the virus in 18-month-old Amina, daughter of Mibol and resident of Toor Tangai in Macha Saber Khel village of Miranshah tehsil, North Waziristan Agency (NWA).

The second child infected by the crippling disease is 11-month-old Asma, daughter of Saifur Rehman and a resident of Spalga in Shogai Tori Khel village, also in Miranshah tehsil of NWA.

Both children are infected with wild poliovirus (type-1).

According to a Prime Minister?s Polio Monitoring Cell surveillance report, neither of the two children had received a single dose of the oral polio vaccine...

MONITORING DESK ISLAMABAD - Two new cases of polio virus were confirmed in North Waziristan on Friday.

According to laboratory reports, both victims of polio including one and a half year old Fatima and Sadas are the residence of Miranshah. The reports show that both the children never took any single dose of polio vaccination.

According to the national health department report, country has registered 19 cases this year and 17 of them were confirmed in North Waziristan Agency while two others belong to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa...

PESHAWAR: Two new polio cases surfaced on Friday, one each from Peshawar and North Waziristan Agency (NWA), taking the country?s total to 21 this year, in comparison to only three cases reported at the same time last year.


The National Institute of Health, Islamabad confirmed the presence of the virus in 12-month-old Khairmadullah, son of Amirdullah and resident of Mizer village of Khuji Khel in Miranshah tehsil of NWA. The child had not received a single dose of oral polio vaccine.

The second child confirmed to be infected was identified as 18-month-old Shakirullah, son of Zabiullah and resident of Qazi Khel village in union council Khalisa 2, Peshawar.

According to an official associated with the polio eradication campaign, Shakirullah?s stool sample was collected on February 9. ?The virus had infected the child almost two weeks prior to the Sehat ka Insaf immunisation campaign launched by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government in Peshawar,? he said.

The emergence of four cases in a brief span of two days has raised alarm bells...

imageISLAMABAD: Health Minister Saira Afzal Tarar on Tuesday expressed concern over increasing number of polio cases in the country especially in FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The minister expressed these views while chairing a meeting. The meeting was also attended by Ayesha Raza Farooq, PM's focal person on Polio, Secretary MoNHSRC, National Programme Manager, EPI and representatives of partner agencies...

...Officials of the PM Polio Cell while sharing the details of the polio cases appeared during current year apprised the meeting that there are 24 polio cases had been registered including 19 from North Waziristan, one case from Khyber Agency, one from FR Bannu while 3 cases had been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including 2 from Peshawar and 1 from Bannu.

Four victims from North Waziristan had not received inoculation.
PESHAWAR:

Six more polio cases, including four from North Waziristan Agency (NWA) and one each from Peshawar and Bannu, surfaced on Thursday.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad has confirmed the cases.

The NIH informed that polio virus wild type1 were diagnosed in 17-month-old Zahid Rehman and 16-month-old Muhammad Rahim from Miramshah tehsil of NWA.

Similarly, seven-month old Sidra and 16-month-old Said Rehman from Mira Ali were diagnosed with the crippling disease. All of these children had not received a single dose of polio vaccine...
