Thirteen new Polio cases in Pakistan
At least 13 new cases of crippling poliovirus have been detected in Pakistan, taking this year's total of the new victims to 158, reports have shown.

At least 13 new cases of the crippling poliovirus were confirmed on Tuesday by the National Institute of Health in the capital Islamabad, Dawn newspaper reported.

A health official said seven of the cases were reported from the tribal regions and three from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province...

ISLAMABAD/ KARACHI: The total number of polio cases in Pakistan steadily crept up to 166 on Thursday as four cases were confirmed from Khyber Agency, North and South Waziristan and two cases in Karachi. According to officials, the number will only rise.

?We fear that we will hit 200 cases by the end of October this year,? an official associated with the polio eradication campaign said. National Manager Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Dr Rana Safdar concurred, saying the number of polio cases is expected to rise within the next two months...

10 new polio cases reported in Pakistan - Total to 184

Ten new polio cases have been reported in Pakistan, raising the total number of such cases to 184.

The health department officials have said the cases were registered from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Karachi, Geo TV reported Tuesday.

According to officials, the count of polio cases is increasing every year.

Fifty-eight cases were reported in 2012 and 93 in 2013.

Pakistan stands at the top of the last three polio endemic countries in the world - the other two being Nigeria and Afghanistan.

A health official in Pakistan says authorities already have detected a record number of polio cases this year, blaming militants for the outbreak.
Rana Mohammad Safdar, a senior official at the National Institute of Health in Islamabad, said on Saturday that doctors have discovered 202 cases this year alone. The previous modern record was 199 cases in 2001.

PESHAWAR/SHEIKHUPURA- Three new polio cases were diagnosed in Peshawar and Sheikhupura on Saturday.
Two more people were tested positive for polio virus in Peshawar taking the toll in the provincial metropolis to 14 this year.

BAJAUR (Dunya News) — At least three security officials were injured in a remote-controlled bomb blast near a vehicle provided for security of polio teams in Bajaur Agency on Wednesday, Dunya News reported. The vehicle of security forces was damaged in the blast.

According to Bajaur Agency authorities, the blast took place in Mamund Tehsil early morning on Wednesday. The attack occurred when a convoy of security forces was in a private car heading for the security of polio workers in Dabar area of Mamund Tehsil. The authorities told that some unknown men had planted remote-controlled bomb near the graveyard on the roadside. There was a huge blast when the security forces’ vehicle reached near the spot injuring at least three security men and completely damaging the car...

Three more polio cases have surfaced in Pakistan, increasing the number of new cases in the country to a record 220, the WHO said today as countries across the globe observed World Polio Day to raise awareness about the crippling disease.

Most of the 220 cases were detected in the northwestern region which is control by Taliban who have banned immunisations, said Dr Elias Durry, who heads WHO's polio eradication efforts in Pakistan...

The last five polio cases reported from Peshawar have been genotyped and linked to the poliovirus from Khyber Agency, an official from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Health Department told The Express Tribune.

While the government wastes more time in holding cosmetic activities such as engaging with women parliamentarians, rather than the armed forces that need to be mobilised for a war-like response to polio, Pakistan added another 7 polio cases to its scorecard Tuesday, taking the total number so far this year to 227.

Sources at the National Institute of Health confirmed seven new wild type-1 polio cases. Of the 227 confirmed cases, Fata takes the lead with 148 cases, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (46), Sindh (23), Punjab (3) and Balochistan (7)...
