Militants kill four polio workers in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: At least four polio workers, including three women, were killed on Wednesday in an attack by militants in Pakistan's restive southwestern Balochistan Province.

Islamabad: The Polio Virology Laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed another seven wild type-1 polio cases in Pakistan here on Saturday. The country?s national count so far this year now stands at 283.
Fata presents the worst-case scenario with 173 cases, followed by Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa where 63 cases have been reported so far this year. While the situation is relatively under control in Punjab, where three cases have been confirmed during the year, Sindh and Balochistan are only 10 cases apart with 27 and 17 cases, respectively...

A polio case in Larkana was detected on Friday, reliable sources told the news agency.
A 13-month boy, Din Muhammad, son of Majid Ali Chandio, resident of village Drabhi Chandio of Union Council Ratokot, district Larkana, has been hit by polio.
The sources said despite administration of 12 doses of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) and three routine doses of OPV plus nine doses to the child during special anti-polio campaigns, he has been confirmed affected by polio.
Vaccination card of the child is also available with the parents. The child at present was on anti-TB treatment. The story raises serious questions about the efficacy of the vaccine or may be that child is imminocompromised: unable to respond to vaccine...
