5 districts of Punjab dangerous for dengue virus

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Health Department has declared 5 districts including Rawalpindi and Lahore dangerous for dengue virus this year.

The directives have been sent to the commissioners, DCO?S and EDO?S of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

The directives inscribed with ?emergency and the most top priority?.

It is said in the notification that the five districts are vulnerable to dengue virus as the presence of dengue reproduction has been detected in the region.

The reproduction of the dengue mosquito usually starts in March that is why the emergency notices have been issued to the districts to be informed in time...

LAHORE: Maryam, the young girl who was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday and thought to have dengue fever, has typhoid.

Khwaja Salman Rafiq, the special assistant to the chief minister for health, said on Thursday that the necessary blood tests, conducted at the Jinnah Hospital, had confirmed the diagnosis.

According to a Health Department spokesperson she developed a fever 10 days ago and was taken to Hameed Latif Hospital where she tested positive for dengue and typhoid. Her platelet count, however, was 180,000...

* 59 fresh cases of fever reported in different hospitals across metropolis

LAHORE: After unleashing a killing spree last year, dengue has reappeared in the city with 59 fresh cases reported at different hospitals of the provincial capital during the last two months.

As many as 59 fresh cases of dengue fever were reported during the first two months of 2012 in different hospitals across the provincial metropolis.
According to details, 41 new dengue patients were admitted to Mayo Hospital, 13 to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, three to Services Hospital and one each to the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) and Jinnah Hospital.

Experts say that dengue fever cases usually appear in September. They say dengue virus appears twice a year ? first from February to April, and again from September to November. This year, fresh cases have started appearing from the very start of the year, which indicated that the virus was becoming a greater threat, and also that the anti-dengue campaign needed to be conducted more vigorously. Last year, more than 378 people died of the fever across the province, and another 0.5 million were affected by the virus...

KARACHI:

It is only the third month of the year and the city has yet to receive the first batch of monsoon rains or experience 40 degree Celsius temperatures, but it has already started registering people afflicted with the dengue virus.

The Dengue Surveillance Cell (DSC) at Civil hospital confirmed on Thursday four cases of the fever that were identified last week, with one of the patients undergoing treatment at a private hospital. From January to date, a total of 29 dengue cases have been reported and treated successfully, said DSC head, Dr Shakeel Aamir Mullick, while talking to The Express Tribune.

All cases reported in the province so far are from Karachi...

Business Recorder Logo Karachi is the only district in the province that has continued to register dengue fever positive cases during the current year.

A senior official of Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell told APP on Monday that 16 patients suspected to be suffering from dengue fever had to be admitted to different hospitals in the city while another 17 were attended at out patients departments, since January one this year.

"Relevant laboratory investigations identified all these 33 cases to be positive during necessary investigation," he said in reply to a question.

The official said one confirmed case of the ailment was reported last week (March 25 to April one), while another three in the preceding week.

He said while no dengue fever related mortality or morbidity was reported...

KARACHI - As many as 34 dengue cases have been reported in Karachi since January 1. According to the Provincial Dengue Surveillance Cell (PDSC), out of the total 34 patients, 17 were admitted to various hospitals and discharged after treatment. The PDSC has asked the masses to adopt precautionary measures to avoid the fatal mosquito-borne disease.

KARACHI: Dengue epidemic is once again raising its ugly head in Karachi as more than 100 patients have been confirmed dengue-positive in the city?s different hospitals so far, whereas Sindh health department insists that there are only 34 cases on record, Geo News reported.

Sources say the government hospitals are by no means prepared for any untoward situation. That is to say the hospitals drastically lack blood, platelets, and other facilities, which forces patients to resort to expensive private hospitals...

43 test positive for dengue in city in six days

Some 45 patients were brought to different hospitals of the city on suspicion of running the dengue fever from May 1 to May 6, said the weekly report issued by the Sindh Dengue Surveillance Cell on Monday.

All these suspected cases were reported to the out-patients? departments of different hospitals and consequent to laboratory tests, 43 of these patients were found to be positive and two negative.

Nearly 300 ?dengue fever cases? reported in 3 months
