DENGUE. epidemiological Situation
From December 30, 2012 (SE 1) to February 16, 2013 (SE 7), total febrile patients admitted to the surveillance system were: 38 692 notifications, of which 14 987 were confirmed cases (38.7%), by lab 3430 (22.9%) and epidemiologically 11,557 (77.1%) were discarded 1050 (2.7%) and 22,655 suspects continue (58.6%). The highest number of notifications was recorded in the Central department febrile 26,501 patients (68.4% of the total reported in the country), followed by Assumption with 5458 (14.1%) and the department of Alto Paran?, with 1506 notifications (3.8%).

In 2013, according to results of the National Reference Laboratory, in the country's co-circulation of DEN 2 and DEN 4, the latter so far only isolated in the town of Pedro Juan Caballero, Amambay, not however remains the predominant serotype DEN-2, 83% (15/18) of the country has viral isolation.

Dengue, Hospitalizations
As for the total of reported hospitalized until SE 7, 13% (5.476/37.642) required hospitalization (see figure 5) and mostly belong to the age group of 20-39 years, representing 30% of total hospitalized.

Mortality Surveillance
So far in the year 2013 and until press time, there were a total of 27 deaths from dengue representing a case fatality rate of 0.07% (27/37642). The average between the onset of symptoms until death patients was 6 days with a range of 2-12 days. 56% were male. The average age of these patients was 48 years (range 1 month to 86 years). The 27% (7/27) of cases, it is the group 60 years and over, followed by the 40-49 group by 23% (6/27).
The department where as many deaths occurred by origin is Central with 88% of the total recorded (24/27).
