2 children die, 41 in hospital after food poisoning
MANILA - TWO children died from suspected food poisoning at an elementary school in Tuguegarao City on Tuesday, a spokesman of the Philippine National Police said.
The children, both five years old, died while undergoing medication at a local hospital.
Forty-one students between five and seven years old and three teachers are still being treated in the hospital.
The spokesman said that miki noodles sold in the school canteen were prepared by a health education teacher. The victims started vomiting shortly after eating the noodles.
He added that the teacher had put three spoons of crystal substance she believed to be iodized salt while preparing the noodles. The white crystal substance turned out to be oxalic, a substance in bleaching solutions. -- THE INQUIRER/ANN
