NCotabato town declares state of calamity after cholera deaths rise to 14

ALAMADA, North Cotabato ? The death toll in the suspected cholera outbreak in remote villages here rose to 14 with more than 200 residents hospitalized, officials said today.
Alamada Vice-Mayor Samuel Alim said eight more fatalities were recorded today by health workers, after having recorded six deaths from between May 10 to 12.
Alim said five of the fatalities were Moro villagers immediately buried after they died Sunday due to severe dehydration as a result of diarrhea and vomiting. ..

ALAMADA, North Cotabato?At least 12 persons died while more than 200 were downed after the victims complained of stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea in four villages here since Saturday.
Vice Mayor Samuel Alim of Alamada said that as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the death toll has reached 12. Alim told the Inquirer by phone that at least 214 patients from Upper Dado, Tigcawaran, Mampurok and Lower Dado villages were also brought to different hospitals.
Dr. Edifer Demetillo of Alamada district hospital said they were still trying to find out the cause of the illness. While waiting for laboratory test results, Dr. Eva Rabaya, the provincial health officer, said it was a diarrhea outbreak. THE diarrhea outbreak that hit remote villages in North Cotabato province had been contained, but the cause of the disease remained unknown, officials said Wednesday.
Governor Emmylou Mendoza said the number of patients at Alamada Community Hospital had been reduced after many of them have been rehydrated when health workers responded just in time to arrest the outbreak.
Health authorities said eight people were confirmed dead from the outbreak..

NORTH COTABATO, Philippines - Health authorities on Friday confirmed that the dysentery that plagued four barangays in North Cotabato was caused by Vibrio cholerae and that tetracycline is now being administered to patients.
Physician Rosario Bandala, municipal health officer of Alamada, told reporters that 438 villagers, out of 769 that complained of painful abdominal spams, nausea and diarrhea, tested positive to Vibrio cholerae.

COTABATO CITY, Philippines?Another resident of Alamada, North Cotabato, succumbed to dehydration as a result of cholera and expired Saturday, raising the death toll in the cholera outbreak to nine.
Dr. Rosario Bandala, the Alamada municipal health chief, said the latest fatality was a 50-year-old woman from the remote village of Upper Dado.
All the fatalities so far?five adults and four minors aged four to eight years?died in their homes and did not make it to the hospital.

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines ? A 7-month-old baby died of dehydration while more than 100 residents of Barangay (village) Limpapa, some 42 kilometers from this city proper, have fallen ill with suspected cholera.
Limpapa village chief Antonio Lacaser told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the number of those who fell sick since Saturday night has been rising.
?We have more than 50 cases brought to the nearby district hospital while more than 30 others were rushed to hospitals downtown. There are more than 40 individuals who opted to be attended by our midwife,? Lacaser said.
