Zamboanga City ? City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos of the City Health Office (CHO) yesterday said CHO is ready to address the possible outbreak of the dreaded mosquito-borne dengue next in this city.

Agbulos said that ?as early as now, we have already adopted some proven prevention and control measures in the barangays (villages), and we are advising the public, particularly the barangay officials, to come up with their own search and destroy operations against the breeding grounds of the killer mosquitoes.?

He said CHO in this city has already mounted a search and destroy operations in the villages of Talon-Talon, Tugbungan, and Tetuan, the three villages in this city with the most number of dengue cases registered last year.

The CHO reported that for the month of May, a total of 374 dengue cases were registered at the CHO, higher than in May, 2013, when it only recorded 333 cases...

Zamboanga on alert as dengue cases rise

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines ? The local health office in Zamboanga City has raised the dengue alert to an alarming level as the disease-carrying mosquitoes have almost spread in all of the 98 barangays in the city, killing six since May.

Dr. Rodelyn Agbulos of the City Health Office (CHO) said the number of dengue cases have already reached 448 for the month of June compared to only 379 cases on the same period last year.

BACOLOD CITY -- Dengue cases in Negros Occidental dropped by 88 percent in the first half of 2014 compared to the same period last year.

Records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed only 188 dengue cases from January to June 26 this year with two deaths compared to 1,554 cases with five deaths during the first six months in 2013.

Still, the PHO continues to warn Negrenses to take the necessary precautionary measures to avoid the virus from mosquito bites...

ILOILO City ? Dengue hemorrhagic fever killed two girls, aged five and eight years old, in Barangay Alegre, Oton, Iloilo this month.
One of the children died on July 18.
The deaths brought to a total of five the dengue fatalities in the province this year, said Dr. Ma. Socorro Qui?on-Colmenares, assistant chief of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

DENGUE in Northern Mindanao has reached an alarming level after it recorded a total of 4,150 cases.

The Regional Epidemiology, Surveillance and Disaster Response Unit (Resdru) of the Department of Health in the region (DOH-10) reported that dengue incidents surged at 35 percent higher as of July 26, 2014 compared to the same period last year.

In 2013 of the same period saw 3,066 cases of dengue in the region, DOH-10 noted...

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (Mindanao Examiner / Aug. 10, 2014) ? The Department of Health reported over 3,000 cases of dengue fever in the southern Philippine region of Caraga.

It said more than a dozen people had already died from the deadly disease whose virus is transmitted to human through the bites of a particular mosquito - Aedes aegypti ? which causes hemorrhagic fever...

DENGUE cases have decreased in the Summer Capital.

Dr. Mary Ann Tubera of the City Health Services Office reported in a recent forum the number of dengue cases declined January to June from the same period last year.

Based on the report, the city had a 73.99 percent decrease in dengue cases or 97 cases from 373 during the first semester last year...

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP or City Council) of Tandag has the city under a state of calamity in the wake of rising dengue cases recorded in 18 of its 21 barangays.

Dengue cases down in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY, August 12 -? Ninety seven dengue cases have been recorded for the period January to June this year, compared to 373 dengue cases in the same period last year, showing a significant decrease of 73.99 percent.
In an interview today, August 12, city medical officer Donnabel Tubera said based on a report, most of the dengue cases are aged 20 to 29 years old and majority of them are males.
In spite of this, there is no fatality reported, stressed Tubera.

Dengue cases in Aklan still on the rise

KALIBO, Aklan, August 13 (PIA6) -- Cases of dengue continue to increase in the province of Aklan with those who have gotten sick of the mosquito-borne disease from January to July 29 of this year here reaching 657.

This period?s cases, if compared to those last year for the same period, is 41.90% higher, based on records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Meanwhile, in a recent meeting to reorganize the Aklan Blood Coordinating Council (ABCC) and to campaign for sustained blood collection for use of dengue victims and other emergency cases, Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Provincial Health Officer I revealed that one Aklanon already died of dengue last week.

The victim, based on local media reports, is said to be a third year college student and the son of a midwife working in a town here.

Dengue cases drops 62% to 39,687 from January to July 26, 2014 compared to 104,043 cases same period in 2013 - DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 39,687 dengue cases nationwide from January to July 26, which is 61.86 percent lower compared to the same period last year of 104,043 cases.

In DOH latest surveillance on dengue, it reported that most of the cases came from Region X with reported 4,145 cases (10.44 percent), followed by Region XII with 3,894 (9.81 percent), Region XI, 3,696 (9.31 percent), Region VIII, 3,474 (8.75 percent) and CARAGA, 3,239 (8.16 percent).

There were 164 deaths from January to July 26.

Comment: As always, preliminary figures for this year are being compared to revised figures for last year. Last year, DOH reported 62,156 cases with 263 deaths to July 13th and 102,192 cases with 385 deaths to Aug 24. So approximately 75,000 cases & 300 deaths by July 26th last year. So comparing apples with apples, this year's figures are running at a little over half of what they were last year. - Ro

Dengue cases down 61% so far this year

MANILA, Philippines?The Department of Health (DOH) has noted a huge drop in the number of dengue cases in the country in the past eight months compared to the same period last year.
A monthly monitoring report showed that from Jan. 1 to Aug. 16, a total of 49,591 incidences of the mosquito-borne disease were recorded, accounting for a 61.21-percent dive from the figures reported in the same period in 2013. So far, 205 deaths have been reported this year.
According to the DOH National Epidemiology Center?s disease surveillance report, there were 127,861 cases of dengue fever last year.

Dengue claims second Aklanon victim

KALIBO, Aklan, September 12 (PIA6) -- Another Aklanon has died from dengue, bringing to two (2) the total number of deaths from the disease from January to August 26 of this year in Aklan.

According to Dr. Cornelio Cuachon, Provincial Health Officer I of the Provincial Health Office here, the dengue victim is a 51-year old female from Nabas, Aklan who died August 15 at the Ibajay District Hospital in Ibajay, Aklan.

The victim was brought to the hospital as she reportedly suffered from gastroenteritis but further tests conducted by health personnel in the hospital revealed she had dengue because her gums were already bleeding.

The first dengue death in Aklan was in July, a college student who was first confined at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital (DRSTMH) and later brought to a hospital in Capiz where he died...

A total of 64,375 dengue cases nationwide were recorded from January 1 to September 13, this year, Health Spokesperson Lyndon Lee Suy disclosed, based on the records from the Department of Health-National Epidemiology Center (DOH-NEC).

?We are actually 58.33 percent lower this year,? Suy said, comparing the number of cases that he revealed from the number of recorded cases in the same period last year, which has a total of 154, 495.

Comment: As usual MOH is comparing this year's figures to last year's revised tally. 117,658 cases were reported on Sep 7, 2013 and 131,808 on Sep 21 so around 125k cases on Sep 13 last year. No fatality figures released in media reports today, but to September 6th the cfr was 0.404% giving an estimated 260 fatalities versus about 450 last year. - Ro

Dengue cases in Surigao City highest in 10 years

SURIGAO CITY (MindaNews / 30 Oct) ? Dengue cases here have reached unprecedented levels in the last 10 years, with 501 cases for the last 10 months wherein 3 patients died, according to the City Health Office.

Garosfe Menor, CHO dengue program coordinator, noted that the number is expected to increase some more by year?s end, especially since many residents seem not to hear the health office?s plea to clean their surroundings and thus prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.

She cited that the next highest incidence in the last 10 years was in 2004, when the number of cases reached 429 with 6 fatalities. The number of cases rose and dropped in the succeeding years; last year, the CHO documented 255 cases with 2 deaths.

This year, Barangay Washington topped the number of cases with 104; followed by Barangay Luna, 70; Barangay Taft with 63 cases; Barangay Canlanipa, 57; and San Juan, 56.

Menor said dengue cases normally occur from September to January...

Over 70,000 dengue cases recorded in 10 months

MORE than 70,000 dengue cases have been reported across the country inside the 10-month period this year, said the Department of Health (DOH).

Based on the data from the DOH?National Epidemiology Center (NEC), there are a total of 73,815 dengue cases recorded in the country since January 1 until October 4.

"This is 56.32 percent lower compared to the same period last year, which was 168,893," said the DOH-NEC report.

There were also 288 deaths from dengue, also lower than the 571 tallied last year during a similar period.

Comment: - As usual the MOH is comparing this year's preliminary figures (which will inevitably be revised upward) with last year's already revised figures. 131,808 cases and 470 deaths were reported to Sep 21 and 166,107 with 528 fatal to Nov 16 of 2013. So an estimated 135-140,000 cases were reported to Oct 4 last year. Still, a significant reduction this year.

Health office marks decrease of dengue cases

THE local health office in Zamboanga City has noted that the number of dengue cases decreased by 16 in October 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.

City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos said they have recorded 61 cases last month, while there were 77 cases for the same period recorded in the previous year.

Agbulos said the decline in dengue cases was brought about by the concerted efforts like the continuous clean-up drive in the community that resulted to the destruction of the breeding of dengue-carriers mosquitoes...
