Rabies outbreak declared in SouthCot town

GENERAL SANTOS CITY (MindaNews/14 March)? The provincial government of South Cotabato has declared an outbreak of the deadly rabies virus in a community in Sto. Nino town following the death of a local resident last week due to confirmed rabies infection.

Dr. Byron dela Cruz, officer-in-charge of the South Cotabato Provincial Veterinary Office, said Friday they have launched a massive anti-rabies vaccination among pet animals in Barangay Poblacion, Sto. Nino in a bid to prevent the possible spread of the disease to other areas.

He said the vaccination drive mainly covers the two-kilometer radius of the residence of 44 year-old Arnold Eskita, who died of rabies complications last March 4...

Rabies outbreaks have been declared in five areas in Negros Occidental after dogs there tested positive for the rabies virus ? and after at least one person died from it.

At least eight other cases had been reported in the province since January, according to a report on GMA News TV's "State of the Nation" on Tuesday night...

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines ? A rabies outbreak had been declared in three cities and two towns in Negros Occidental by the Provincial Veterinary Office.

Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said the three cities were Bacolod, Cadiz and San Carlos, while the two towns were Binalbagan and Pulupandan.

PVO report showed that there are eight deaths recorded by dog bites in the province with four in Bacolod; two in Binalbagan; and one each in Pulupundan, San Carlos City and Cadiz City.
