Joshua Tree National Park officials Thursday confirmed a pneumonia outbreak in the park?s bighorn sheep population.

The first report of a sick and coughing bighorn came in early May. In mid-August, a dead lamb was found in the park and sent to a laboratory for necropsy, according to a park news release.

The laboratory analysis of blood and tissue samples confirmed the animal had pneumonia. The mortality rate for animals infected is 50 percent to 90 percent and there is no vaccine or cure, officials said...
