A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck near Alaska at 1 a.m. PST Saturday morning and the West Coast Alaska Tsunami Warning centre issued an alert just minutes later. However, it was 2 a.m. before Emergency Management BC distributed their notification.

As it happened, Port Hardy residents were ordered to evacuate around 2:45 a.m., after the Tsunami Warning had been officially lifted, but before Emergency Management BC had passed on the message...
