Confirmed another death from dengue
There are now four deaths this year

For The New Day

The Department of Health said yesterday the death of a person because of dengue, so make four deaths associated with this virus so far this year.

Lorenzo Gonzalez, Secretary of Health, said that it is a person whose sex is not specified, aged 20 to 30 years of age and resident in southern Puerto Rico.

The death is included in the report by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to week 36 (from 2 to 8 September), which was released yesterday. In this period 273 cases were reported, a figure above the epidemic threshold.

Kills two children aged 10 dengue
Health confirmed the deaths and urged to protect children from disease

The Health Secretary Lorenzo Gonzalez, admitted today, Sunday, that two new confirmed dengue deaths this weekend in people younger than 10 years residing in the metropolitan area.

The two new deaths on Friday were not included in the report issued by the Center for Disease Control (CDC, for its acronym in English), the official said in a news release.

Dr. Gonzalez announced he would meet with the staff of the Division of the CDC Dengue in Cuba to discuss whether the federal agency considers formally declare a dengue epidemic in Puerto Rico.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) ? Puerto Rico's health department has declared a dengue epidemic.

Health Secretary Lorenzo Gonzalez says at least six people have died, including two children younger than 10. A total of 4,816 cases have been reported, including 21 cases of the potentially fatal hemorrhagic dengue.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 342 new cases were reported in one week last month, twice the number of cases during the same period last year.
