Punjab govt orders probe into cholera outbreak

CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR: Punjab government has ordered an inquiry into outbreak of cholera in Kasupur village of Shahkot sub-division. Civil surgeon Jalandhar, Dr HK Singla, has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit a report within three days.
The civil surgeon has been asked to visit the area and identify reasons for the outbreak of disease. The civil surgeon, who is responsible for making arrangements, has been asked to point out lapses, if any, of health department in preventing the outbreak.
A teenaged girl, Harpreet Kaur, had died on June 3, while around two dozen other villagers had fallen ill following consumption of highly contaminated water in Kasupur village near Shahkot through water supply system in the village. Patients were admitted in Shahkot civil hospital and some private hospitals of the area, following which the health department had set up a camp in the village.
