Gehlot government sleeps on swince flu deaths

The number of swine flu-related deaths has risen in Rajasthan over the past three years, but the Ashok Gehlotled state government is yet to wake up to the seriousness of the situation.
According to the data compiled by the state health directorate, the death rate has gone up from 5.87 per cent in 2009-10 to 27 per cent in 2011-12. Of the 2,700 people who died across the country of this airborne flu during 2009-2010 and 2011-12, Rajasthan alone witnessed 321 deaths.
The number includes three deaths reported in Jaipur on Saturday. Till now, 21 cases of swine flu have been reported in the state capital.

JAIPUR: Four more persons including a three-and- half year old infant was tested positive for swine flu in various parts of the state on Tuesday taking the number of swine flu cases to 37 in last 24 days. In March itself the flu has claimed five lives in Rajasthan so far.

According to officials of the medical and health, four people including an infant Abhimanu, who hails from Sodala, were test positive in the reports came on Tuesday. The other patients tested positive belonged to Nagaur and Ajmer.

JAIPUR: One more swine flu patient died in the state on Friday taking the toll during March this year to seven. Besides, three more persons tested positive for the disease.

A 62-year-old man became the seventh victim of the disease in the last 30 days. He was a resident of Jodhpur and undergoing treatment at MDM hospital there. In Jodhpur, it is the second death in the last three days due to the disease. The doctors said the deceased was pneumonic and was on ventilators for the last four days. At the MDM hospital, 14 more patients are admitted whose swab samples have been sent for swine flu testing.

Meanwhile a 35-year-old woman tested positive for swine flu in Bikaner on Saturday. This has taken the number of swine flu patients in the state since April 1 to 22. Of these, one person succumbed.

However, on Saturday, not a single swine flu case was reported in Jaipur. This is seen as a little respite for the administration, as the city had been coming on the swine flu positives' list in the state almost every day in the last few days.

Earlier, seven new cases were found in the state on Friday -- two from Jaipur, four from Jodhpur and one from Nagaur.

Both the cases found in Jaipur were from neighbouring villages. While one was a pregnant woman from Lavera Bawdi, the other case was of a newborn from Phalodi.

Swine Flu hits Rajasthan, one dead

Bundi: In the first swine flu fatality of the season in Rajasthan, a 52-year-old woman infected with H1N1 virus died at a private hospital here.

The woman identified as Neelama, an employee of Punjab National Bank, died of the flu yesterday, Chief Medical Officer of Kota Gagnendra Singh Sisodiya said today. Neelima was admitted on Sunday and was later shifted to a private hospital, where she succumbed to her illness, he said, adding that one more person has been tested positive in the district and is being treated at a private hospital.
